Starizona Power Pack vs. Celestron Power Tank

Starizona 12V DC w/ (2) 4.5 amp-hour batters

OR

Celestron 12V DC 7 amp-hour batter

Which is best? And does anyone know the dimensions of the Starizona power pack?

None of the above. Hie yourself to the local Wal-Mart and get yourself a 20ah jumpstart battery for the same or less than these things.

LBN 1022 - a nearby brightening taking place?

Posted By Rod Mollise

Jim Thommes said:

Here is an image of LBN 1022. Look at the cropped image on the page (link below) that points out a small nebula. I have looked on the DSS slides and this nebula is much dimmer. Is it a known brightening nebula? Anyone take any pictures of this area recently? I would appreciate any help or information anyone could provide to me.

The C8 optics let me down a bit on the image, but the image and exposure details are at:

http://www.jthommes.com/Astro/LBN1022.htm

The region of this 36 arc minute wide field is Equatorial 2000: RA: 06h 56m 52s Dec: -08°16'19"

Scope - C8 at f/4.2
Camera - Artemis285 Astronomik Ha, LRGB filters
Mount - G11/Gemini
Guiding - Megrez II at 555 mm FL, DSI Pro, PHD Guiding

You never know...you were looking at a red plate, right?

My take is Global Warming is nearly completely theoretical, with enphasis on the Retorical.
Political Science rather than science. It belongs in the same unscientific catagory as the philosophy, not science, of "the many worlds theory" or any variations of string theory.

You've examined all the evidence, including what's been in _Science_ and _Nature_...or is this something you decided based on what You Feel in Your Heart? ;-)

Name That Asteriod?

Posted By Rod Mollise

Dale Conrad said:

I was taking, or attempting to take a picture of the flaming star nebula Sunday night. After stacking an hours worth of exposures I detected what I assume is about a magnitude 14 to 15 asteroid. Its' position was really close to RA05:19:38 DEC+34:45:58 and was in that area at 05:38 Dec. 7, 09 GMT. It was moving from CE to slightly north of CW at a rate of about 47 arc sec/hour.

Since the object was well defined in the exposures I don't think is was a comet so I would think it was an asteroid.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Most planetarium programs will allow you download current asteroid elements and plot positions based on a time of interest.

Alternate title: "Many Americans do not Have as Much Sense as Geese" LOL

Prevented them from believing this? I'd say religion HELPS. Believing in the physical reality of gods and goddesses is much the same as believing in just this sort of supernatural BUNK.

I thoroughly enjoyed her Youtube clips. I think that it's wonderful that an unknown from humble background can get a "break". I purchased her debut CD, and have enjoyed it vry much. It's the first CD I've purchased in a couple of yrs. Now I hope to find a Barbara Padilla CD on the market.

The lady has talent...a little squirelly, maybe...but talented.

Me? When it comes to female vocalists, I believe I will just stick to Tammy Wynette. LOL

Answered prayer

Posted By Rod Mollise

I am more than happy that this has made you happy...that's THE most important thing.

I gotta say, though, I don't get it. One "answered" prayer among a million unanswered ones and its a miracle?

Numbers Station?

Posted By Rod Mollise

Thomas Holst said:

I'm not much of a radio enthusiast but sometimes when I can't sleep I'll scan the frequencies on my little handheld SW radio. (This usually puts me to sleep.) The other night I ran across a broadcast consisting of a female voice reciting "random" numbers in Spanish for several minutes, then the transmission just stopped. Was this one of those "Numbers Stations" I've read about that is used for sending secret messages to spies?

That's correct. It still goes on...communicating use a One Time Pad.
