You said, "If they could prove they are here legally..." Precisely! You can be taught! Now take just one more step Richard, and acknowledge for the forum how these accused prove they are here legally? You know the answer, it is an immigration hearing! You are almost there.Originally Posted by Richard Davis

I never stated that 15 Million people should be deported if they could prove they are here legally.
When did I say anything of the sort? The answer is that I never said that. What you stated above is a flat out lie.
If you want to support your lie above, show me the point where I stated that.

My question was entirely reasonable, given your own convoluted thread title. Read it. Unless you think there are 15,000,000 MS 13 members in the US? In that case, you should write more concise and accurate thread titles. We all know this of course, your thread titles are a constant source of amusement, as are your feeble attempts to weasel out of the garbage you post.Originally Posted by Richard Davis

What I was speaking about was a criminal illegal alien who is a member of one of the most violent gangs on planet Earth, MS13.

Since you have not addressed this obvious point, and I've mentioned it more than once, is it fair to assume you agree deporting Abrego Garcia to El Salvador directly in contradiction of the controlling court order violates his due process rights? This is the controlling due process question, not your canard of whether he has already had a couple previous hearings.Originally Posted by James Brown
While you are at it, you have not yet explained how deporting Garcia to El Salvador directly in contradiction of the controlling court order constitutes due process. You will recall you argued the other day that Garcia had received sufficient due process. I'm not holding my breath waiting for you to post a full reply.

This will be over Richard's depth, but for the rest of the forum, I do think the government's burden varies based upon circumstances. If an alleged illegal alien is to be deported in general, the issue at the short immigration hearing is limited to, "are you in the US legally or not?"
In some cases, the illegal alien is to be incarcerated for a crime above and beyond illegal entry. A crime like murder, rape or theft. By incarcerated, I mean either here in the US or in a Salvadoran prison paid for by taxpayers. In those cases, the due process burden obviously includes proving that the illegal committed another crime above and beyond illegal entry.
Of course, the illegal alien could be incarcerated here (for an appropriate time) for the crime of illegal entry alone. That is not how it is usually done, except for the time awaiting deportation.

Canada Elects Liberal In Response To Trump/Auto TariffsPosted By James Brown |

He’s broken one of the greatest international friendships in history in 3 months. The Con party here are very much admirers of Trump.

Biden: 2.4% GDP last quarter. Trump: -0.3% GDP, a drop of 2.7%.Posted By James Brown |
Sigh. Blame the voters? This is beneath you James. How about blaming the Democrats, including Harris, for lying to the public about Biden's mental and physical competency, until it was too late and Trump's election was guaranteed. Harris was actively complicit in that lie. How about blaming Harris who stood by when specific non-enforcement policies were implemented that opened an unprecedented flood of illegal immigration? How about blaming Harris for failing to distinguish herself from Biden on any meaningful issue? Heck, she failed to distinguish herself from Biden one iota when lobbed a softball question opening the door. Harris is a political failure.Originally Posted by James Lacey

Harris is not overqualified and competent by any reasonable measure. At least if she is overqualified and competent, she has done her best to conceal it her entire time in Washington. Heck, the Democrats weeded her out in 2020 before the first primary vote was cast. I can not think of a single accomplishment she can claim that speaks to exceptional or even average competency. If being VP for a term and doing pretty much nothing makes one overqualified, then my classmate Mike Pence and his predecessor from Indiana, Dan Quayle' were both overqualified to be president. You buying that?
The Democrats once again committed political malpractice and assured the election of Donald Trump. Looks like they are poised to lose to Trump's successor in 2028 too. https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/your-2028-democratic-presidential
The Trump voters had very good reasons for voting for Trump in November. The economy, immigration, and the fact that Harris was not overqualified and competent. Trump's chaotic first 100 days since then changes nothing of the situation in November 2024.
p.s. I voted for Harris, but it was absolutely, categorically, a vote against Trump, not a vote for Harris. I thought and think she has demonstrated marginal competence at best. Look, for all I know she is a certified genius, but she was so clearly overly cautious, afraid to say anything negative about the Biden administration that she ended up saying nothing. I suppose this is what we always will get on the national scene though, politicians on the left so beholden to Hollywood, lefty oligarchs, and activists in the base, they become afraid to say or do anything out of line. Same on the right of course.

Do you have any examples of policies implemented by Harris that display significant competence or political talent?Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman
My feelings on this would be essentially the same even if Harris was, in your estimation, more competent than in your description.
An impatient electorate would have likely re-elected Trump based solely on their immediate gratification of their perceptions of the economy such as high egg prices, "inflation" etc. The other issues were secondary in the majority of the electorate. They bought the constant Trump GOP drumbeat of immediate lowering of their grocery prices.
In general, I'm in agreement with the contentions noted by James in his post.
And yes, the electorate was inpatient. They will certainly lose patience with Trump too, if the economy continues to decline. What chafes me is the constant drumbeat of Trump voters being too dumb to know what is good for them. I hate the hubris of that attitude. Especially when spouted by Oprah, Springsteen, HRC, and the like, but also here on the forum. Far too many people who should know better spout platitudes that basically say the dumb voters broke for Trump and the intelligent voters stood with Harris. This is self-serving and smug, and as far as I can tell serves only to reinforce certain Harris voter's cherished moral superiority. This attitude certainly does not prep the Democrats for reemergence in 2026 or 2028. From time to time I am sure Harris voters feel the same way about outspoken MAGA true-believers, but equivalence does not make it right. Not by a long shot.
Also, the "Trump voters are morons" attitude, even if it were true, is simply an admission the Democrats have lost the ability to connect with the majority of voters. Demographics used to be destiny until the Democrats sold out their base. The D's have locked up the white, well-to-do, college educated demographic and amazingly lost ground with all the rest.

Well, obviously no one of intelligence is thrilled with the market in Q1 2025. But we have to wait and see what happens next. I'm programmed to be optimistic, so I think/hope/pray Trump will back off his more disruptive policies, and the US economy and the market will prosper in spite of him.Originally Posted by Jim MoscheckWell, I thought fine, if that's who the voters wanted and with the conservatives in charge of congress at least I'd benefit from my investments in the stock market. This sounds fine in retrospect, but in the run-up to 11/24 saying this was believed to be suicide by the Harris/Biden team. So she never said this at least not as cleanly as you have typed it out. (In 2020 Harris did run quite a bit to the left of the centrist Biden economic policies you sketched out. Also, if continuing the Biden policies were indeed what Harris intended to do, me, you and others in the market would be fine. The single mom, for whom the price of groceries is a really big deal, not so much. You can not now, with 20/20 hindsight say, it is as bad or worse under Trump. That is not how the campaigns were run.Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman
My understanding is Harris would have continued with similar economic policies, overall, as with the Biden times. In other words, continuing high rates of employment, continuing return of manufacturing in key sectors and technology(i.e "chips act" , improvement of infrastructure and cooperation with the Fed.
I think a lot of the consternation about the Trump voters, i.e the immovable MAGA voter like the ones in the Trump rallies and the ones who fly the flag with Trump's face on one side of it and the American flag on the other, and/or Trump 2028 and the like is their in your face with the flag I'm a holier than thou American and you're not.
That's where the backlash is oriented to from what I've seen/read in the media.
You can and will say that all you like in 2026 and 28.
