What a great choice that Democrats in NY voted as the front runner, an Israel hating avowed socialist who wants to eliminate the Police and replace them with social workers

I disagree with everything Mamdani appears to stand for, and I get it that this is New York City.  But still, the choice was between the rich, entitled, white, sexual predator, old-guard and someone who at least "sounds" fresh.  Someone who motivated the kids, even though his promises are all entirely impossible.  Surely there must have been someone better than Cuomo who the Democratic establishment could have backed?  Is there no fresh blood that is not a socialist to be found in the Democratic party?

This is gonna matter in 2028.  Will the DNC line up behind AOC or Newsome, or can they somehow convince a possible winner like Shapiro to run?   If the D candidate is Newsome (or AOC, heaven forbid), all my liberal friends better get used to saying "President Vance" through January 2037!

The odds are about 12 quadrillion to 1 of that happening.
The incumbent is running as an independent.

No, the Democratic establishment supported Cuomo, as I explained earlier.   Now they are in a pickle.  Schumer is lining up behind a candidate he does not approve of, just like all of the Washington Rs lined up behind Trump.

Big Day at the Supreme Court

Posted By James Brown

Six important rulings expected.  The first one is huge - the Court just held that a single district court judge or panel could not enjoin an executive order across the entire nation.  The district court injunction is limited to their own jurisdiction.   The context was birthright citizenship and the opinion does not touch the merits.   The constitutionality of birthright citizenship will be determined later.

This case is much bigger than birthright citizenship of course.  Many executive orders are under what (as of yesterday)
were nationwide preliminary injunction while the litigation progresses.

In the second opinion, the Court upheld the portion of Obamacare requiring states to pay in full for preventative care like cancer screenings and statins.   If I understand it correctly, the argument was that the agency panel that identifies the key preventative care treatments had "too much power" (according to some states) and needed presidential appointment and congressional approval (remember that issue in the documents case?)  Here a majority said, "no sir."

Yesterday, "the Supreme Court ruled that a South Carolina woman and Planned Parenthood do not have a legal right, known as standing, to bring a lawsuit challenging South Carolina’s decision to exclude Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid program on the basis that the organization provides abortions."

This one seems like a no-brainer, but the Court reinstated the right of the parents of young children to opt out of book readings involving LBGTQ+ issues.

Another win for religious rights.  This will infuriate that social-left activists for sure.

"The plaintiffs argued that the fund is unlawful because Congress unconstitutionally delegated its authority to the FCC, which in turn transferred power to the Universal Service Administrative Company. The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit sided with Consumers' Research and found that the combination of Congress' delegation to the FCC, and the commission's subdelegation to the fund administrator violates the Constitution.

The Justice Department under former President Joe Biden asked the Supreme Court to review the 5th Circuit's ruling, and the Trump administration continued to defend the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund."

Who would have guessed.  This emphasizes that the government works pretty well on low-profile issues.
