A freak late Spring snowstorm in Australia, record low temperatures in the U.S., and this at COP15:

Snow on the deflated expectations of smarmy politicians and their paid legal and scientific "help". Couldn't have happened to nicer people. 8)

And an unseasonal snowstorm means exactly what in the context of climate change? Nothing. LOL

trying to reconsile mirror test data with observat

Lessons learned?

1. Star testing is useless under poor seeing.

2. As aperture goes up, mirror figure is less a factor. Other things begin to pull ahead and have more influence.

3. Don't take someone's testing results as gospel.

4. Did I mention seeing? LOL

SCT Collimation eyepiece?

I recently traded in my 16" lightbridge for a Nexstar 11 GPS carbon fiber...alot more suitable for my suburban area and astrophotography i wanna get into in the future. When i recieved the scope and tried it out, it was a little flurry on stars (they looked ellipital, like an infinity sign...you know..with a tail like a comet)...i tried collimating it by turning the 3 screws at the front of the OTA...BAD idea...became even blurrier =(

Im having trouble getting it back into focus...ive never really collimated before and would prefer an easier way to do it then the complicated prodedure i found on google.

I DID see they DO have a collimating laser eyepiece for SCT's availble now..here is the link...(kendrick has one too i believe)
http://www.agenaastro.com/HoTech-2-1-25-SCA-Laser-Collimator-p/palc-ht-sca-2.htm

What is everyones opinion? id prefer having a quick handy tool where i can quickly align the optics often since i want to get into astrophotography within the next 6-12 months as well..
thanks!

Forget lasers and collimation eyepieces. Get down to your local club and get some h-e-l-p. Someone who's experienced with these telescopes needs to have a look at yours and give you a hand!

The season is the reason for the Season

It seems that most major religions have a major religious holiday around Solstice Time.

While many claim their holy day is about something other than Solstice, it is pretty obvious. In Christianity, for example, it is allegedly a celebration of Christ's birth, but we know that the early Christians co-opted the Roman celebration of Saturnalia as cover for their forbidden activities. Scholars place the actual birth of Jesus in the spring.
I think Saturnalia ought to be revived by astronomers!
Happy Solstice Holiday of your choice.
John

The beauty of the thing is that EVERYBODY can celebrate, have a good time, drink too much sasparilla, and do kindnesses to all and sundry whether you're Christian, pagan, worship the Great Flying Spaghetti
Monster or whatever floats your boat! Nobody has exclusive claim to Solstice celebrations...though I predict we will hear that one group THINKS they do in 3...2...1... LOL

Yet another survey...

There's also the factor that people tend to answer questions about god in the affirmative, especially telephone surveys, whether they actually believe it or not.

I think we need to rename this forum the ANIT-RELIGIOUS forum or POLITICO-RELIGIOUS forum, as it seems that it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with the above. wink

I think the name is just fine. It's a place for the discussion of religion, which is exactly what is going on. NOT discussions in SUPPORT of religion necessarily, but _religion_.

Nagler vs explorer scientific

smile Hi I'm De Lorme, Which is the better eyepiece Naglers or explorer scientific ? If you say nagler ,why {being they cost a considerable amount more} ? just don't want to be dissipointed. thanks for any help you can give. De Lorme

Likely the Nagler...but WHICH Explore (I assume that is who you are talking about) Scientific eyepiece are you specifically referring to? Certainly their 100 degree AFOVs are superior to the Naglers in some ways.
