The key issue for these crazies is US support for Israel. Maybe I should be more blunt… The key issue for these crazies is Israel’s right to exist at all.

I’ve known you online for what, about 20 years? The situation in the United States, where the Republicans are vocally supporting Israel and the Democrats are turning their back must be driving you nuts.

I’ll be curious to see how the Colorado primaries turn out tonight.  (I love our system, where the votes can be tabulated on election day (today) but that is a rant for another time!) There are a couple of races on the Democratic side where Democratic Socialists are opposing conventional establishment liberals. I doubt that the “crazy” has legs beyond New York City, or maybe Seattle/Portland, but who knows?

Once again I’m probably going to be proven wrong. With 65% of the vote in, the socialist  Melat Kiros is ahead of the ancient liberal incumbent Diana DeGette. There is not a republican on earth who could beat Diana DeGette, she has been a fixture as the congresswoman from Denver for decades.   she is as liberal as they come. But she is not a socialist. Unbelievable.

It’s getting worse.

Melat Kiros is obviously bright and highly educated.   But her main claim to fame is this too-long open letter condemning Israel.   She sugar coats her points with “anti-Semitism is bad” platitudes, but if you have the time to digest this whole thing the bottom line is full-throated justification of Palestinian violence and condemnation of any Israeli response.   She’s probably going to be the next congresswoman representing Denver.  ☹️

My take on the whole thing:

1. IRAN WAR: I agree with Maher that Trump's timing was awful in that he waited until 100,000 or so Iranians died while being murdered by the Iranian regime instead of upholding his promise of "help is on the way." Had he coordinated the combined American-Israeli  attacks with the uprising, the outcome may have very well been different.

America won't tolerate casualties like it did in the second world war and the greatest generation is long gone and it's not coming back. Israel has taken 1000 casualties taking out most of Hamas and a major chunk out of Hezbollah but America wouldn't deal with sustaining 100 casualties taking Kharg Island.
Hamas , Hezbollah and Iran are winning the propaganda war with its genocide bullshit which the progressives believe to be real and that's a major reason of why we are where we are with these candidates.

2. If these progressive candidates prevail, the GOP will beat the Democratic party over the head with them come November and, as I've already stated, I agree again with Maher that it'll cost the Democrats the midterm elections...
Done deal in Denver.

I can not believe this.   It like an alternate universe where Pelosi lost a San Francisco primary at the height of her political power.

The Bidens and Hunter were investigated to death, and nothing was ever filed except for some ridiculously minor charges against Hunter. I'm not saying the Bidens are squeaky clean; obviously, they are not, but compared to what we are seeing with Trump and his family, it's a night-and-day difference. Just wait until 2026, and the Democrats will control the House. The entire Trump administration, past and present, is going to spend so much time testifying in Congress, they won't be able to do any more damage for two more years. That's really the only bright spot we have to look forward to. Trump is effectively already a lame duck, but he will be one under almost constant investigation after the 2026 general election. Honestly, I think it may always have been part of their strategy to come into office and rush through as many of their radical policies as they could, because they knew they would be unpopular and that public opinion would shift quickly, so they only had two years at most to get them done.
I totally understand your point James, the Trump corruption does appear to be of an unprecedented scale.

Even so, Hunter was not charged with more serious crimes because of political interference.  The crimes he was charged with were certainly not "nothing burgers."  You and I would be doing years in the federal system if we had committed any of Hunter's well documented tax, weapons, or drug crimes.  He was also obviously was the beneficiary of large scale graft.  10% for the "big guy is at the very least problematic, and remains unexplained as of today and forever because of the pardons.

Please note that I do not think any of the above mitigates the Trump family corruption one iota.  I do think, for what it is worth, that your phrasing above that seemingly semi-sorta absolves Hunter diminishes your real point.  Jim

Speaking of Richard, I would have made a small wager that he would have a posted a new thread here this morning, since Plattner is flaming out in Maine. How could Rich resist the temptation of fabricating a gloat or two here, premised in his false alternative universe where we have all been vocal Plattner supporters all along?   I reckon there is still time, maybe Rich is sleeping in.
