Eclipse from Ghent, the relaxed way

Posted By Dominique Dierick

While I was walking around in the center of Ghent, taking snapshots of the eclipse and the public, my TMB was equiped with a second EOS and interval timer to capture the entire sequence.

Here is the series:

And here is one of the snapshots (double exposure, one for the sun, one for the fountain):

I am a rock! Well, they are ;)

Composite of two avi's (one long exposure one) with DMK camera and C9.25.

Seems to fit the simulation I found on the ST net.

Moon with TOA130 and 2x Barcon, 20D

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Due to some home decoration work, astronomy has been low recently, but yesterday I took out my TOA130 for an image of the moon first quarter.

I have high resolution monochrome videos with a large DMK camera too, but these still need to be processed and combined with the color one. This is already the single shot color version with my Canon 20D.

The link is here, make sure Internet Explorer does not downsize the image...

Moon mosaic DMK 1024x768 camera

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Thanks all for the nice comments on the single shot lunar image.

Here is a bit bigger one, the mosaic made with the DMK 1024x768 camera, 30 movies of 1500 frames reduced and aligned together. The color came from the Canon image.

The mosaic is a 20% downsize of the original.

DMK 41AF02 1280x960 camera first "light"

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

We just received the new DMK 41AF02 firewire camera. Boy what a field of view!
Here is a first "light" shot with it (stack of 100 frames at 15fps made in prime focus of TMB 80/480 thru an open window). Hopefully next week will be good weather in France, as Philippe Vercoutter and myself will be on holiday from tomorrow there with his 140mm Coronado filter wink

By the way, received a message from DMK that the smaller camera will soon get to 60fps and up to 60 minute exposure time (the latter being less interesting for solar system observing, but ok, nice to have).

Sun with Coronado 140 and large DMK firewire

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Here are some first tries Philippe Vercouter and myself made last week while on holiday near the beaches of Normandy.

Made with a Coronado 140mm single stack on an AP 155 EDF refractor with DMK 41AF02 camera.

Moon with DMK 41AF02 and Registax Beta release

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Tonight seeing was hopeless, so I stuck to my TOA130 with 2x barlow.
I used my DMK 41AF02 camera, with a new feature of Registax (currently beta test only, not yet released). The new feature is multiple alignment zones, a mandatory thing for larger firewire cameras (and interesting also for small webcams of course!). I aligned on 4 alignment points. Come to think of it, I should have used at least the double to get the entire image sharpsmile Oh well... next time wink

First light TOA130F and sun in UltraViolet light

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

turbulence was quite strong, nevertheless I tried to image the sun with my TOA130F and Ultraviolet filter. Quite a sight on the video camera!

Here are the results of today. Still lots of room for improvement when the seeing would go better. I could only use 25 and 50 frames out of 1500, and still there was a lot of movement in these frames:

Sun in UV last monday

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Due to work hadn't the chance to post it earlier.

Shot with DMK firewire camera, TOA130F and 5x powermate. Herschel wedge and Baader UV passband filter. Fairly strong turbulence in UV (but also in the Solar Continuum filter - the UV came out better on this occassion).

High speed changes in high resolution protuberance

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Here is a nice animation of a rapidly evolving protuberans on the sun yesterday.

Two short AVI movies (15s) at 30s interval, with my TOA130F refractor, ERF filter and at the back a PST etalon and blocking filter. DMK camera.
