Just an idea Philip. I use a Philips web cam but the sp900. I didn't install any philips software, but rather downloaded virtual dub and the camera was plug and play. I am using an xp machine. The virtual dub is freeware.

Rings & Focus rig for 300mm Nikon

I am looking for a mounting plate, extra support ring, and focus solution for remote focusing of a nikon lens. This will actually be for daytime use, and will be mounted on a heavy duty tripod.

no, not sure what you have there. What phase was the moon? I assume waxing even though the overexposure looks full. Looks like some sort of internal lens reflection. The coatings might be making it look green.

Camera Options

I am curious what interface folks recommend these days.

I have just gotten a much needed laptop that can handle higher frame rates and more frames in general, and I hope to finally get a new camera to improve my attempts at planetary imaging. It has an expresscard slot so I can use the standard USB2 or I could get GigE, firewire or any other available express card option.

Modified DSLR Imaging

What is the preferred method of modifying a DSLR for pure deepsky imaging with a premium APO.

Would simply removing the IR blocking filter work? I've never quite understood taking an IR filter off and replacing it with another UV/IR block.

Is it that you need a UV blocking filter to prevent star bloat or halo's?

I find myself with a spare D70 I could consider for this. I would also like to be consider being able to do wide field deep sky with a wide lens and piggy back stuff.

Can somebody point me to a link with some more information etc on pending changes here?

I haven't spent to much time lately. A few quick visits a week as I have been busy with work trying to stay employed. but just caught a fleating ad on the featured ads that about a new policy but not much info. It and a couple posts described new fees to all, instead of the past "new members", "changing emails", and support structure. That's fine, but I also read some confusing posts that imply that member subsribers won't see ads placed? only additional supporters? That doesn't make much sense and I assume I have that wrong. I know there were ads that were emailed to supporters but if common members can't see ad's what the point?

Sorry to post off topic, but this forum gets much more traffic than FAQ.

Does anybody know how to "renew" membership. I just caught an ad that flashes occasionally, and I'm learning that I must actively re-subscribe. But the link on details has no link to a subscription renewal dialogue box or similar.

When I click my account, it has sponsor options, but that is temporary montly, quarterly, apparently have to do this today as I'm not sure time I paid some fees. Some were support, another was for an email address change.

Need help Identifying Object

Okay, saw something rather strange and need help. I have been observing for some 20 years and have never seen anything as strange as this, and was looking for an explanation.

I was setting up my scope in the early nite sky. I had just seen the Tiangong satallite pass over at 20:54 on September 15 over Queensbury, NY. But at 21:12, I saw a very bright orange light moving all the way accross the sky like the ISS, but it was at least mag -4 or brighter and it was very orange. At first I thought it was a slow fireball, but it just kept going. Straight, no sound. This moved W to E at about 70 deg altitude. It dissapeared in east at about 40 deg alt. Then 10 minutes later, another same trajectory but carried on all the way to horizon. These had similar speed to ISS.

Any ideas?

Ioptron Skytracker Help

Just bought a skytracker at NEAF on impulse as I knew I had an upcomming trip for which I wanted a lightweight tracking platform. I now realize this is integrated with iphone for alignment. I don't have an iphone.

Does anybody know how I can get instructions or do calculations to place polaris, and the southern pole. I assume it might be like a TAK mount. For the TAK mount, I don't need polarfinder software to calculate where to put polaris.
