Tak FS-128 flourite vs triplet

Posted By Dwight Bogan

You are not going to have to worry about the flourite in the Tak scopes being overly delicate. You are not working the glass so that is not going to be a problem. You will do just fine with either the FS-128 or TOA scope. If anything in the enviroment will degrade the optics that would be leaving your optical tube uncovered in the back seat of your car in Arizona or Texas where temps can reach up to 180 degrees. The cold is really not an issue here. Now if you were heading down to some mountain top in Antartica where temps can approach 100 Degrees below zero you might have something but here again I think you have nothing to worry about.

Tak FS128 vs TOA130 vs AP130 f/6

Posted By Dwight Bogan

How long a wait do you have several month's or several years. Personally I opt for the AP 130 F6 I own one and I love the wide field views it gives with my 31 Nagler I've had my scope since 1996 and have compared it too many other scope including the AP 130 F8 and found no differences in rendering of Jupiter at high power. If your interest is purley visual ie planets then you might be better served with either the FS 128 my next choice or the TOA 130 which I have issues with as far as cool down times are concerned with. If your in California or Ariz where cool down is not really and issue then go for it. If your in the Midwest or back east where you can get some real extremes in temp swings esp between indoor vs outdoor temps and your a real stickler for image sharpness I would be wary and go for the FS128 instead. The slight color error that the Tak doublet introduces is very minor in my book compared to a center element that lags the interior and outer elements while coming to equilibruim. Roland Christen has experimented with these broken Apo designs and has noted some long lag times with the center element cooling properly but this was with a 6 inch sized element. Maybe its not an issue with the TOA 130 but that would be something I would be keeping in mind.

warning of new fraudulent buyer

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I have a real simple solution to this sort of International fraud.
simply do not deal outside of the Continental USA that means Canada
Mexico are also on the outside list. Let the complanies that deal with
outsourcing in the World Wide economy deal with all the fraud they can
afford it you cannot. Maybe this excludes a lot of people that are otherwise
trustworthy but I'd rather pass up and good sale or a buy than get burned
It only takes one time.

Stowaway and Traveler

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I have the 92mm F7 Stowaway and its probably the perfect travel scope.
The views with the moon and planets are really wonderful and you won't believe
that this is a 92mm Aperture scope. Likewise deep sky wide field viewing is
something I never tire of. All of the veil in one eyepiece field and without a filter
Of course dark skies really help. But then traveling to dark skies is not a problem
The scope and my Vixen GPDX packs along in less than 5 minutes. Once I arrive at the
site it takes less then ten minutes to assemble and less time to tear down. If I
did not have the Stowaway then it would probably be the Televue 85, of course
I also have a Takahashi FS 78 that is also a very good travel scope as well.
Basically its like this if you have the chance to get your hands on a Traveler or
a Stowaway do it you won't be dissappointed.

AP 600EGTO mount

Posted By Dwight Bogan

Yes there are people who own the 600 Egoto and they seem to really like them same goes for the 400 goto
As far as the 900 goto being a bit heavy my personal feeling on this that it is not. The heaviest
componant is only around 30 lbs it is an extremely easy mount to move around. What knid of sscope are
you wanting to mount anyway's

I know it is the American way, but....

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I don't know what it is about people and why they seem to think that it is unethical
to buy something and sit on it then sell at a later date. Yeah that is what some people do
But those of us who have bought 10 inch Maks that is myself and unless there is a major
change in my life such as loss of employment or I'm declared terminally ill with cancer with less
than a month to live I don't think I'll be selling mine. Most of us who have bought the 25 or
so 10 inch Maks only three to my knowledge had or are being sold. One individual had a AP 7 inch F9
come in his direction. Another indidvidual sold his 10 inch Mak along with a lot of other
items to finance his own business and the third one was of course Herb who has every right to
sell what ever comes his way. If he makes money then so be it.

There have been a number of people over the years who have flipped AP scopes for a modest
profit but if you really look into it, the stock market really is a better bet over the long term.
But if you really looked into who bought what and who sold there equipment I think you would find that
most people keep there equipment for a very long time. I still have my AP 130 F6 that I purchased
from AP in 1996, In January of 1999 I took delivery of my AP 155 F7 and two years ago I acquired my
10 inch Mak and my AP 92mm Stowaway.

The only AP items I've sold were my AP 400 QMD and my AP 600 QMD in order to afford my AP 900 goto that
I acquired in October of 1998. Since then I have acquired and sold off my 14 inch Newt on German Eq mount.
Celestron 9.25 Ultima, my Brandon 80mm Seeing is believing 1986 scope. When I bought the AP 130 F6 I sold
my Brandon 94mm Apo with a Vixen DX mount. When I took delevery of my AP 155 F7 I sold my Quantum six maksutov.
If you must know how I did on my trnasactions. I made money on the Quantum six that only after I had owned it for 20 years.
The 94 Brandon and the DX mount I basicallybroke even and the 14 inch Newt and the Celestron 9.25 I lost money.
That is where my score card currently stands. Now if I should sell any of my AP stuff in the future it really is
not anyones business but my own. Whether or not I make money on the deal is really no ones business but my own. But
don't look for that not any time soon.

The WMD Report

Posted By Dwight Bogan

Oh I don't think the Bush Adminsitration had any illusions about the Iragi WMD's they knew they were not there. The whole idea of the war was to gain control of the Oil. This operation was planned years ago. Had Bush the Elder been reelected the US would have gone to war with Irag in the mid ninties again on the pretense that Saddam Hussein and the Iragi govt was not agreeing to the UN sanctions. The idea again was to gain control of the 2nd largest stocks of Oil in the world. Well history did not play out that way. Bush the elder did not get reelected. Eight years of a truely Democratic gov't and 8 years of some of the best economic growth since WWII with the National dept well under control and a payoff likely by 2010. Well Bush the younger manages to get himself elected and from day one his people went on to figure out a way to start a war with Irag. So 911 happens and gave the Bush administration just what the doctor ordered. Bush the yonger now has his war and the excuse to go to war. Its no surprise to me that there were no WMD's and the programs to develop them were pretty much ruined. Thanks to the work of the UN inspectors who went into Irag after the 1991 war, they pretty much defanged Saddam Hussein. But Politics being what it is and most Americans seem to have extremely short memories who don't seem to recall what was going on in Irag after the the 1991 war. The dismanteling efforts by the UN was reported on the news almost nightly but because of certain factions in this country they wanted and they did portray Saddam Hussein as this big threat to national security. The truth be known he was only a threat to Isreal and not much of one at that. But tell that to the people who support Isreal the United States 51st state. Now we own Irag, weve got a pupput govt in control and we have basically a civil war going on in Irag today. We managed to piss off the French, Germans and the Russians the three major countries who could have helped out. But oh no! The US has to go at this alone. Well I hope you Republican Tax payers are happy because the paper for all of this comes due in about 2010. I hope to be retired by then. I don't want to be working and paying the new tax schedule the rest of you will be paying after that time. What is the deficet at right now? Someone said 8 trillion. Boy you people will be paying for Irag for the next 50 years. Lets see that should put the payoff at about 2060 if I'm alive at that time I'll be 107

Gorilla Wake

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I've observed dogs mourn if you could use the term after one of there doggie buddies got splattered by a car. I remember in particular this one Dog kept looking down the street as the car the did the deed sped away from the crime scene. Apparently Apes that includes Gorilla's Chimpanzes's and the other tailess varieties seem to have this ability. Whales and Dolphins as well as Elephants seem to mourn for there dead comrades too. Its only human arrogance that decides that only humans are capable of this behavior.
