Another Chromacor question

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Just remembered, the Chromacor also corrects for spherical abberration. There are 5 different degrees of correction -2 degrees over, 2 degrees under and a null correction. By utilizing one of the various levels of correction, I think the Chromacor can be utilized for various F ratios. The below link to a page at apm-us shows test results of Chromacor with various F ration scopes.

Thank you. I found the older thread. Great help.

EP's for 6" Celestron Refractor

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Looks like you've got a decent selection already, with some magnification flexibility given the barlow. How do you like the Radian, especially for planets?

I'm using Meade's 6" refractor (AR 6). I don't have much of an EP selection. I've ordered the $99 EP deal - wont be going up in quality, but at the price ...

I'm having trouble with my high power EP (5 mm series 3000 plossl) as there isn't much eye relief or FOV. I'm observing in hot & sticky South Florida. Great seeing, right until everything dews up. With the 5 mm the proximity of my eye fogs the EP in about 15 minutes.

I'm trying to decide on some better EP's with better eye relief. I'll watch the posts to your query, but the radian sounds nice.

This morning's catch - Mars.

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Great image!

I can see, especially in the 1st image a whiteness at the righthand side along the edge of the planet, below the dark area. Is this just some type of artifact or illusion? I noticed the same thing this morning (5/26/03) at about 5:00 -5:45 AM, but the whiteness covered the entire limb and seemed thicker than in your image. It was there no matter what EP or filters I used. Any possibility this is an actual atmospheric pnenomenon on Mars?

Just Ordered: Orion 80 ED

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Congratulations! Enjoy it.

I can't say its particularly light, but I can reccomend the "regular" Williams Optics diagonal as a cost effective option. Depending on how you are mounting, you might want to rethink the "lightest" part. I have found I wanted as much weight at the EP end so as to push the tube forward when balancing. This way you have less contortions to go through, eg. when you change from viewing at the horizon vs. zenith.

MK 67 vs 6" F-8 Achromat

Posted By Gregory Damiani

No doubt the M715 would be a better choice, however, at more than twice the price I can't justify it (especially to my boss - I mean wife) ($2345 standard / $2845 deluxe). My main concern is that I not take a step backward from the 6 " Achromat. The smaller tube will likely get me out more often.

What I'd really like is the M91 (9" F/13.5 MakCass w/ 26% co). Have to wait for the wallet to catch up to the appetite.

Seriously though, the M715 was clearly my top choice, the MK 67 was simply a more "economical" compromise.

I hope I'm happy. I'll let you all know.

Question re:

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Hi all.

I am about to post my first ad to sell my AR 6 OTA.

Question. I see many advertisers accept PayPal. How does this work? How do you go about setting up an account?

BTW: Thanks to everyone who responded to my MK 67 vs. 6" Achromat post! I picked up the new scope yesterday, no curse, Saturn was awesome! Now I need to sell the big scope.

Re: AR6 Removing the focuser end of the scope?

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Exacty what I used. I flocked to the 1st baffle at both the objective and the focuser end. I flocked the focuser tube to 1st (or 2d) baffle(s). I also flocked the dew sheild. Get a cheshire eyepiece (about $30 from Anacortes). Collimating the AR 6 with the cheshire is simple. No guess work, no waiting for good seeing, all in your living room.

Good Luck & clear steady skies.
