What mount is this?

Posted By Malc Shedden

OK, I think its the same CG5 clone mount that comes with Konusky scopes. Probably not a bad deal for $230.

Is this another too-good-to-be-true ad?

Posted By Malc Shedden

I sent a reply the day after the ad posted (ha ha, like that was ever going to happen), didn’t get a reply for about 24 hours (until a few hours ago) saying “yes it’s still available”, direct reply to email, not through astromart messaging. Email address is gmail and 4 letters and 4 numbers, nothing related to name of person, or vaguely identifiable.

I mentioned lack of feedback being possibly problematic, asked for contact details, and a closeup picture of the plate from the back of the scope. Nothing back yet.

Probably too good to be true, too cheap, but looks like you have first shot at it anyway!!

Scam Alert

> At least, with a check, you can pay a fee to stop payment on it.

In the ‘for what it’s worth department’, that particular bank service is absolutely no guarantee of anything.

As an example, I was scammed (not Astro related) and put a stop payment on the check. The scammers immediately took the check to a ‘checks cashed here’ establishment, which cashed the check for them for a percentage of the take check.

The bank did stop payment on the check, BUT I got sued for the full amount of the check by the ‘checks cashed here’ guy. As it turns out there is absolutely no defense whatsoever that will protect you from this. The law says the ‘checks cashed here’ guy has a 100% bulletproof claim to the funds, even if you were scammed, even if anything. If you wrote a check, you are liable for it. If the scammers ripped you off, that is a separate matter, and nothing to do with the ‘checks cashed here’ guy - he gets his money no matter what.

Scammers don’t put checks through their own accounts, and are more than willing to lose a percentage to the ‘checks cashed here’ guy if it means they have cash in hand.

Are check cashing establishments a front for crooks and scammers? I have an opinion on that, as you can probably imagine...

Sorry, yes, 4 letters *5* numbers, ending in a 1.

No reply to my second email yet either.

Not worth the risk!
