Vic Refers To You Know Who!

On the Stellarvue Yahoo Group Vic Maris (owner of Stellarvue) refers to another manufacturer who constantly produces vaporware, who claims new and unique and delivers ordinary run of the mill, whose business model he finds incredible because of vaporware issues, who does little else but import from China...now I wonder who Vic could be referring to...thinks it's anyone we know and love...right Herb.

Larger Scopes May Be On The Way

I was told that the Taiwan/Chinese vendor who has recently introduced the 80ED being shown by Stellarvue/AT and others is testing a 110mm F/6 prototype that it will be showing to a group of dealers in about a month. Hopefully we will start to see something other than the numerous 80mm refractors that seem to be popping up almost weekly.

Why So Few 90-110mm F/7-F/8 Doublet Refractors??

It seems the "sweet spot" for reasonably priced, higher performing doublet achromats (ED glass) seems to be 80mm in F/5-F/7 focal lenghts...does the boost in aperture add so much chromatic abberation or added glass cost that all we're ever going to see is a never ending supply of 80mm scopes (in a never ending array of colors). There's got to be a substantial number of 80mm owners who are ready to move up to something a bit larger.

Latest Item-Quartz Diagonals

Noticed that "Quartz" Dielectic Diagonals are now being made available
for $189 complete with performance test report...seems whatever WO is offering...someone else is offering (at what appears to be) the same product for allot less. Amazing times to be in this hobby. BTW, BO will be offering a similar (if not the same) product shortly...it'll be interesting to see how the price points match up.

Heard "through the grapevine" that a Burgess/TMB 105MM semi-apo (I know, I know that's ludicrous terminology but that's how it was mentioned) is closer to fruition (whatever that means in Burgess'case)than the Backpacker.
