I've finally got it!!!! Where to park my retiremen

Posted By Michael Koons

So I hear today, the 168 billion to us all back(jump start the economy), another 30 billion for JP Morgan, lets get another 30 billion rolling along for bad real estate loans and oh my lets not forget the 300 or so billion who knows what in Iraq, printing all this cash for poor choices while sinking the dollar. I need all your help! I know the government prints its own cash but I need some leads as to who produces the fabric and ink that is just flying out of Washington, they are in for a banner year, I need to know, who makes the stuff they print money out of, help me find out who!!!!!

Looking for the executive summary, energy policy

Posted By Michael Koons

Do any of the 3 actively, passionately embrace, speak to and have a track record of aggressive pursuit of a comprehensive energy policy? Or will they just appoint Jimmy Carter as Sec. of Energy?

Recovery Rebate

Posted By Michael Koons

Recovery Rebate, blah, blah blah, all I heard on the radio all day was the rebate checks are en route. Not a peep about the Loan from your kids rebate, or the dollar just took another kick in the groin so your rebate might cover the next increase in gas, rebate shmemate. Its not a rebate of any type, its a loan, with no payback schedule. :C

Change

Posted By Michael Koons

Which one of the candidates is discussing the comming change from a high consumption(partially fueled by loose credit, easy money policy and a host of other shams) economy to a conservation economy........... With no discretionary bucks in a lot of households left, and no savings, we had better start. I'll vote for that candidate

After my wife went shopping this week, she was a bit distraught as our weekly budget which includes groceries and gas seems not adequate any more(and its around 15% more than last year). We reviewed http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/cpi.pdf the governments report on how much more we are paying for stuff. We felt very relieved after seeing as food and energy are only up 5%-6% and everything else 1.2%. But we still only have 1/2 a tank of gas, and that box of Wheaties I opened up was 10.9 ounces, it almost looks like a single serving box. What's up with that wink
I'm wondering if the CPI has a backdoor conversion, and the baseline was perhaps in Euros, then its appreciation compared to the dollar might sooth any inflationary woes we might think about having. 8O

Issues/Money/Energy

After figuring out our family of 5 was using 900 gallons of oil for hot water(showers, dishwasher, wash) and the like. I snipped the puppy off and invested $1500 in a few solar panels and some control items. A month and a half later, I'm enjoying virtually free hot water from the sun. Thing I thought though..... if you had to buy the complete system you would pay around $3,000 and perhaps another $2,000(probably high) to install for a total of $5,000. Instead of sending $50,000,000,000 to oil companys each year, we could install 10,000,000 of these on homes each year! If each one saved only half of the 900 gallons, that's still an annual fuel oil savings of 4.5 Billion gallons or 8.6 million barrels per year. So, should we conserve and explore and utilize alternative sources, or drill you make the call.

Fannie and Freddie

The free market only works when everyone plays fair, the cheaters and rascals run away, the taxpayer foots the bill. With this and the jobless report, what's the outlook for next week? I'm looking for international support at around the 10.000 level. With the relative weakening of foreign economies helping the dollar, foreign investors who have kept out of dollars should be looking at the US stock market at that level as a bargain, double dipping as the dollar rallies. What do you all think?

Buy and hold?

I'm starting to think it is a cracked concept. The S&P and Dow get shuffled every year with the dogs kicked out and the shining stars put in, and still this is the result. I'm starting to look for oversold financials next week starting with ALD and NLY. 2 mid players with big dividends and a nice track record. I think the index funds are too diluted for the big picture I'm seeing for my money.
