Hey folks.
I would like to thanks John Kuhl, Bret Akers, and Eric Gage for recommending L.L. Bean's Baxter State parka here a year ago. My sweet wife just bought me one for Christmas and it kept me nice and toasty at a local dark sky site (Red Rocks) Saturday night, despite a low temperature of 8 degrees. smile
My poor Sky Commander was performing very sluggishly though. The text was coming up faint and very slowly on the LCD screen, until I placed a hand warmer heat pad on it. It worked wonders. Highly recommended in the gloves, too! grin

Siebert OCA

Well, I finally ordered a pair of Siebert OCA's for my BinoVue, and just received them today.
I got a MultiMag 1.3x zero mag combination. Apparently, I can only use the 1.3x on the Starmaster, but I figured the zero mag might be fun on my TV-85. It will be nice to recapture some of the lost FOV that the TV 2x OCA resulted in.
Sure would be nice to try them out tonight, but alas, the new equipment curse has been in effect for a few days already.

Argo Navis and Sky Commander comparison

OK. New thread. Sounds good.
I'm preparing to hook up a ServoCat system on my 14.5" dob.
I'm going to operate it with my existing Sky Commander for the time being, per Gary's recommendation.
But I may upgrade to an Argo Navis at some time in the future.
I have played around with Floyd's a bit, and it does seem rather intuitive to use.
John is suggesting that the SkyCom is less accurate,
but over the course of an evening, I find 95% of objects in the FOV of the eyepiece.
Occasionally, one will be just outside field, and I will find it in a couple seconds,
usually by glancing through my optical finder.
So, while I'm not trying to detract from the AN,
how much more accurate do you need to be?

My wife and I were over in Utah during the last full moon.
Got a few decent shots in the park, using a beanbag-like pillow, in lieu of a tripod.
A little too bright, perhaps?

STEREO solar eclipse

Check this out...
No human has ever witnessed a solar eclipse quite like this:
NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft was about a million miles from Earth last month
when it photographed the Moon passing in front of the sun. The resulting movie looks like it came from an alien solar system.
