Same spot, taken on 10/30. I like this galaxy, not too small, nice spiral and nice structure to play with.
Total exposure 2hours, 24 x 5min, Canon 20Da, ISO 1600. Telescope is Celestron 9.25, F=1480mm, f/6.3. Losmandy G-11, I use PHDGuiding to auto-guide with a Phillips webcam and Takahashi FS60.
Calibrated, aligned, stacked with ImagePlus, histogram stretched with Photoshop.

Thanks for looking!

This is a mosaic of 6 frames taken on 10/30/08, 11/26/08 and 01/26/09 at Doughton Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Takahashi epsilon 160 at f/3.3
Canon 20Da at ISO 1600
Losmandy G-11
Auto-guiding with PHD guiding, Tak FS60, webcam.
Calibrated in ImagePlus, assembled and edited in Photoshop. That was a project ! Each frame is exposed for 1h30 (30 x 3min) for a total of 9 hours.
Different sizes of that picture can be seen at :

M45, The Pleiades

Nice ! I like the spikes and the nebulosity. In order to lower the noise in the middle of the picture, instead of shooting 6 x 8 min, shoot 20 x 8 min or 30 x 8 min if you can. The more pictures, the less noise.

Good shot, continue. It takes some time to get satisfying results.
For information on how to process, I suggest you have a look at

as well as (this is my "article", I explain how I shoot my pictures based on my experience. Not exactly the state-of-the-art but it works for me)

Forgotten Image: Orion's Belt and Sword

Nice ! very nice field of view, good colors and lots of nebulosity as you say.

For comparison, here again the same area taken in March 05 with my Canon 20D with the Canon 200mm L lens set at f/4. ISO 800, 20 pictures of 5 minutes each for a total of 1h40min, combined together with Photoshop. The field of view is smaller of course, and the sensitivity to nebulosity is smaller too.
I think the comparison is interesting, and your picture better. :-)

My first Astrophoto- Canon 20D

Good picture... if that's your first ever long exposure, what will come next ? It took me more than one year to get something like that. The alignment looks good... You must have digitally processed it to get rid of light pollution, right ?
Watch out for planes, you have one passing through the picture in the lower left corner (if Astromart always displays pics with the same orientation). It also looks like you have some flare from the lens, near the center of Orion, but below it, visible against the black background.
