Can't see the listing

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Just wondered why it is that sometimes I will see a number in the classified listing next to the category and when I click on it, there is nothing appearing in the listing.

MK66 vs 12.5" F6 Cave dob

Posted By Robert Klipstein

OK, let me refine my question here. If I am primarily concerned with planets and lunar, with little DSO(Orion Nebula and M57) and the 95lbs OTA and the 50lbs for the rocker box of the dob makes it much less portable. Maybe I answered my own question.

Alan,

I have a 7.5mm Sirius Plossl and a 20mm no name plossl that I am not using that I could donate to your club. What is your mailing address?

Collimating a refractor?

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Nick,

You are indeed a lucky fellow if you have a Tak 152 to be concerned about. With the reputation of Takahashi, I seriously doubt your 152 would be out of collimation. I agree with Mike that the star test is a good indicator, but I would ad that I have been told that you also need to check to see if the diagonal affects the collimation. In other words, the scope with the diagonal should also check out on the star test.

Small Refractor for Wide Field and Planetary?

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Tybee,

For that kind of money(even less)you could get a beautiful Tak Sky 90 OTA or a Televue 85 apo. Both scopes would suit your needs for widefield and planetary(although my TV85 got a little dark when I really cranked the power. The resolution was still good, but it just didn't grab enough light at 200X per inch to be enjoyable) You may also consider the new Orion 80ED apo. It is a 600mm focal length and 1/3 the price of either the Tak or TV. I just got one and love it.

I can't believe my eyes. High priced apo's showing false color, when I see none on the moon with my lowly Celestron 80mm f11 achromat!!!

Orion 80mm ED Focuser Question

Posted By Robert Klipstein

Don,

I had the same problem with mine. I put a 2" Televue diagonal in with a BW Optik 30mm. When I would get the scope pointed almost staight up(or even close)I would have to crank down the tension screw really hard or the focuser would just keep on coming out.
