A 6" Criterion RV-6 with an Orion Steadypix holding a Canon Powershot A530 camera using 4x optical zoom, up to a Chinese 10mm plossl eyepiece with a Japanese 2x Celestron Ultima barlow. Registax 4 (I love those Registax programmers!) and Roxio Photosuite5 for the first image.

Io, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede, in that order going outward, with the Great Red Spot going over the limb on Aug. 5th p.m.

Moon via cell phone camera

Reduced to 50% of original size with Adobe PhotoDeluxe. Used a 1.3 megapixel Motorola W490 phone camera (afocal) via a 20mm plossl EP, a Celestron no. 96 filter stacked on a Tasco Moon filter, 6" Criterion RV-6, a Jury-rigged Orion SteadyPix and 2 rubber-bands.

Double Cluster, no scope, Canon SX100 IS

No telescope used - Canon SX100 IS digital point-n-shoot camera (from Sears) at 10x optical zoom and 1600 ASA, three 15 second sub-frames, camera mounted on a mechanical timer from Home Depot very roughly pointed in the general direction of Polaris, Registax 4, Adobe PhotoDeluxe.

They used the the Gemini telescope (on Mauna Kea Hawaii) for this
adaptive optics image of a star identified as 1RSX J160929.1-210524
and its possible ~8 Jupiter-mass companion. I hope it bears out!

These are 2 shots I did in '07 that I posted, but I had never processed them until tonight (I had uploaded them un-touched.) Here they are after a 50 percent reduction and sharpening

Both were a single exposure in my 5MP Kodak point-n-shoot (I miss that camera) afocal via the Criterion RV-6.

Jupiter w/ GRS centered Sept. 19, 2008

Jupiter was pretty low when I caught this one

but I really wanted to catch it near the meridian (my first time catching it this far away from the limb.) I estimate it was only around 23 to 25 degrees above the horizon using Starry Night Pro, which also reported that it was 41 arc seconds angular size, ~4.79 AU away, mag -2.38 and ~99.11% illumination.

Considering how much atmosphere there was between the camera and Jupiter, I'm happy it even came out. The above was a relatively quick processing of it; I tried stretching the histogram in both Registax and Roxio, but both of them messed up the details pretty badly (as I had seen via this monitor in a dark room) and burned out Jupiter. I'm guessing that during daylight I may feel differently about it, but I'm going to leave it darker for now (perhaps I'll revisit processing it sometime when it's cloudy?)

Afocal via Criterion RV-6, 10mm EP and 2x Celestron Ultima Barlow, Canon Powershot A530 camera (with its 4x optical zoom used too) in video mode. No external computer or PC present to record. Stacked in Registax 4, post-processed in Roxio PhotoSuite 5.

Jupiter & Moon - Sept. 19 GRS before Meridian X-in

and same thing (same run as above) processed a little differently using less light and a little more wavelets sharpening (to enhance some details)

Both were reduced to 90% of original size, and acquired using the afocal method in 6" Criterion, 10mm EP, 2x Ultima Barlow, Canon A530 (w/4x optical zoome, no laptop/PC present, Registax 4, and Roxio PhotoSuite 5.

I saw it while randomly jumping around the sky doing visual and looking at open clusters and took a 15 second tourist snapshot of it as it looked like a neat one (afocal via Tasco 8" newtonian on Criterion RV-6 mount, Canon Powershot A530 at ISO 800.)

If anybody recognizes it, I'd like to know what it is so I can find it again :^) Regards, Jason H.
