Changing the A/A designation is none too bright

Posted By Paul Kammueller

None too bright to say the least. I have a feeling 99% of atheists and agnostics would themselves reject a designation sounding so precious. They are a very matter-of-fact lot, to adopt a name like "brights" sounds oddly cultic (not to mention self-serving). I can't imagine what these guys were thinking.

My apologies if I did something wrong. . .

Just FYI -- it's because of the link you posted to a certain auction site which shall remain nameless. Such posting is against the Astromart Terms of Service.

You don't have the focuser locking screw tightened down, do you? This could scratch things up a bit.

At what point?

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Ooo this is refreshing, yes we need a new topic --

>>Should parents pay for their kids' college? (mine didn't)<<

Mine did for a year or so, after that I was pretty much on my own and worked my way the rest of the way through. Paid my own living expenses from the start. Mind you this was 17 years ago and college was a LOT cheaper then and minimum wage hasn't risen in line with tuition since then. Advantages of not paying their way: those who fund their own education value it more conviction and treat it less as a birthright and more of a privilege. Disadvantages: longer time to complete your degree when you work 30-40+ hrs/week. Between work and study, something's got to give.

>>Should they pay for a car, gas and insurance? (mine didn't)<<

Car -- NO. I didn't even have a car my first year or so, it's not a necessity item for a college student. Though I must confess my parents then gave me their old Volare, but it literally fell apart within a year (I had to have it towed to get rid of it, LOL)
Gas -- No, except to get home after visiting you :-)
Insurance -- Maybe, and then only if they drive responsibly. ;-)

Confused atheists

Posted By Paul Kammueller

I think a lot of people just don't have a clue about what they believe and don't give it much thought until they're halfway through a poll questionnaire about it.

Maybe SOL is gonna NOVA...

space.com has a very interesting piece today on the "perfect storm" solar flare of 1859 and its effects on even a very non-technological world (widespread fires from shorting of telegraph wires existing at the time). Interesting to speculate on what a solar event of that magnitude could do to us today.

Future of humanity (another vote)

>>tell me what the Radation tag on the front is?<<

The prism covers are made of depleted uranium. Saved the Iraqi Government a bundle. :-)

Is Saddam Lurking?

Posted By Paul Kammueller

I think he's probably lurking. Would be nice if they found either him or his body, would probably cut down on the attacks a bit, but probably not completely as many are now coming from foreign elements anyway.

No, no, that's a feature -- it's called 'randomly spaced micro-baffling' :-)
