President Obama and Muslim law

Now imagine an attempt on his life. The political fallout would be horrendous.

Are you suggesting that the fallout of an attempt on W or McCain's life would be acceptable?

Or,

Are you suggesting that the secret service is not up to the task of protecting the president?

Well; just what are you suggesting?

West Virginia results?

Lee:

I now think it's over. Obama is campaigning against McCain. The national press says it's over. Minor victories against Obama are too little and too late for Clinton. I suppose that Florida and Michigan could make waves, but the all important super delegate tide is trending Obama's way.

Why is it that this forum is so heated all the time. It seems to me that most are here to just stir up an argument and then push it as far as the moderator will allow. Makes for very poor reading really. :S

Hi Floyd:

Did you catch this new thread?

McCains Health

Jim Babcock said:

The best chance that McCain has is if the Dem candidate runs their campaign using the material that you have posted in this thread.

At this point in time the left has a mobilized youth. McCain's age and health being made an issue by Obama would instantly mobilize the geriatric crowd. From the primary polls I saw, they are not enthusiastic about anyone, but a young black male whose mentor was Wright and who infers that they are useless to society would get a lot of wheelchairs rolling.

The college kids were active early in the primaries because it was cool and a fad to vote for either a black or a woman. By the time the general comes along they will be on to their next video game while the old trustworthy elderlies will be there with an issue that they care about.

Hi Jim:

Do you remember how Dean, and then Kerry had mobilized the youth vote? There is an old political saying that the candidate who relies on the youth vote is known as the "loser."

You are very correct that the Democrats must avoid upsetting the AARP crowd, because that demographic votes. Each and every one of them. That being said, I wish McCain were younger. As I mentioned to Rod, I think that the VP choice is critical. I want a running mate whom I think is ready willing and able to do the President's job should the need arise. Obviously this is the case in every election, but McCain's age and health record highlight this issue. I do think McCain is smart enough to make a good VP selection.

It's Over

McBush and Obama are already tied in a poll of polls and for it to be that close at this point even with the unmitigated disaster of the Bush policies inflicted upon the country should tell anyone that we will have more of the same for a minimum of another four years, if not eight.
As most of know, the election of Dubya simply represented the dumbing down of America and now that an opportunity for change exists, you would expect people would know better and flock to the party of change.
Join the insane, vote for McCain:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/06/05/polls-obama-mccain-locked-in-dead-heat/

Rod:

Develop some political gravitas. The only thing insane here is that a well read person such as you would think that a CNN survey of polls taken in June means diddly-squat.

The democrats (and if dare say so), you yourself, have a choice to make. Are you going to grow up politically and sell Obama to us center right and center left swing voters (and I mean sell him on the issues); or are you going to sit back like losers and recycle tired sophomoric garbage such as "the election of Dubya simply represented the dumbing down of America"?

The choice is yours and the choice is the Democrats. Either:

a) Prove to the middle that Obama would make a better president than McCain; or

b) Continue to insult the intelligence of Republican and swing voters, refuse to accommodate those with different values from yours, campaign against Bush instead of McCain, generally wring you hands and gnash your teeth and proceed to lose the most un-losable election in modern times.

The ball is in your court between now and November. It will be interesting to see what you and the Democrats do with it.

No Bid Big Oil in Iraq

Posted By James Brown

Rod Kaufman said:

Big oil is back in Iraq, thanks to a huge, NO BID, oil deal:

It looks like Cheney and company are finally realizing their ultimate goal on their war on terror...

Rod:

I don't think the article supports your analysis.

Jim

"The no-bid contracts are unusual for the industry, and the offers prevailed over others by more than 40 companies, including companies in Russia, China and India. The contracts, which would run for one to two years and are relatively small by industry standards, would nonetheless give the companies an advantage in bidding on future contracts in a country that many experts consider to be the best hope for a large-scale increase in oil production."

"The Iraqi Oil Ministry, through a spokesman, said the no-bid contracts were a stop-gap measure to bring modern skills into the fields while the oil law was pending in Parliament.

It said the companies had been chosen because they had been advising the ministry without charge for two years before being awarded the contracts, and because these companies had the needed technology."

"While small, the deals hold great promise for the companies."

"Assem Jihad, the Oil Ministry spokesman, said the ministry chose companies it was comfortable working with under the charitable memorandum of understanding agreements, and for their technical prowess. "Because of that, they got the priority," he said.

In all cases but one, the same company that had provided free advice to the ministry for work on a specific field was offered the technical support contract for that field, one of the companies' officials said."
