Sunspot AR10904

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are six images of AR10904. Seeing wasn't great, but passable. I'm not sure what is causing the cross-hatching in the image....seems to be a recent "feature" of the Lumenera camera I am using. I am thinking it may have to do with the gain I was using. Hopefully I can test that theory soon.

M27

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is my first try at M27. It was bigger and fainter than I expected. I did 20 exposures of 60 seconds each and it still wasn't very bright. Shot with the Orion Starshoot camera on the Mewlon 250 at F/7.2.

Help with Neptune

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

If someone has an atlas that can do it, could you run me an image of Neptune/Triton for September 10 at about 0300UT? I am using Starrynight 6.0 Pro+ and the atlas shows Triton well separated from Neptune (about 15") at that time, but when I went to image, it didn't show up. I've imaged Triton before easily at that separation so I'm wondering if the SN ephemeris is wrong, or I missed something.

Thanks!!

Uranus photo opportunity

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I was running Uranus through my StarryNight software and noticed that at about 430UT on Friday morning (about 2130 PST) the five moons of Uranus will be almost lined up, the closest about 8" from the planet. Might be a good time to see how many you can image. Here is the star map.

I am hoping for clear weather!!
Good luck!

M15

Shot with my Orion Starshoot. I used Dave Nash's tutorial for processing ( http://www.davesastro.co.uk/techniques/m15_example/ ).

The Sun in H-alpha

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Well, it's my first try, so I know I'll get better...the disk and prom images needed a tiny bit of rotation to line up (gotta learn how to do that in Photoshop). Also, I have quite a glare from the prom image....maybe I had the filter too close to the refractor lense. At least the sun is almost always available to experiment with. Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Shot with a SM60, and Orion ED100.

Flare in AR10915!!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I was in the right place at the right time (even if the seeing was only average). I caught this flare just as it was starting and got 4 images until it was basically done. All of this in 80 minutes. The Sun sure is dynamic in H-a. I plan to re-process (with MAP) later, but wanted to get this posted today.

Another nice Prom today

Posted By Paul Maxson

I'm starting to get the hang of darkening the disk to bring out the proms. Tweak...tweak....

Anyway, a couple of nice proms visible this morning (about 1700UT)

Prom animation

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is an animation of the big prom shot on Saturday. It is a series of 30 frames shot over a 45 minute period. The animation itself looks decent. The images are not great because AFTER I finished the frames I discovered my SM60 was detuned. (Note to self...check the tuning knob BEFORE imaging.) I hope to try this again tomorrow. I want to do an animation of the Mercury transit next month.
