A couple moon shots

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

These were shot in unsettled conditions, clouds and rain hit a couple hours later. Nothing special, but I felt like posting something. **grin**

Both shot with my Mewlon 250, F/30 and processed in Registax 4 beta with 5 point MAP.

Robert,

Very nice image!! I hope I can get that type of sharpness at night, much less in the middle of the day. Congratulations!!

DSO cameras?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a comparison between the various DSO camera's like SBIG, Starlight, Atik, etc? What I'm looking for, if it exists, is how the various $2000 - $4000 cameras compare, strengths and weaknesses, etc. Just curious....

Thanks!!

A July Jupiter

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is a Jupiter I shot this past July. I tried less contrast and gamma to capture moons. The bands are less prominant, but the whole look of the planet seems more natural to me, any comments?

Thanks!!

M13

I'm getting in the DSO processing flow lately. Here is an M13 shot in 100+F temperature in mid July.

Two Mercury transit images

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Someone was smiling on me today! I had absolutely clear and calm weather for the transit. I was able to get over 3.5 hours of data, including 32 H-a images that I plan to turn into an animation in the next day or two. Here are a couple of examples of my images, one in white light and the other in H-a. It was nice of Mercury to drag a huge sunspot group around the sun for us to view for the next couple of weeks too!! These were shot with my ED-100, SM60 for the H-a and Baader filter for the White Light images. I used a Lumenera camera and shot 5 second bursts at 60fps, processing about 150/300 frames using Registax 4 and two point alignment.

This was such a thrill, even if there was little science involved...

More to follow.

Hope I can ask this here...

Posted By Paul Maxson

I'm getting ready to jump from my Starshoot DSO camera to something more significant. I've narrowed it down to:

SBIG ST-2000XCM

or

Atik 16HRC

I like the idea of the SBIG for it's autoguider. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc.... I don't want to spend more than $3000 at this point (retired/on fixed income). I'll be using the camera with a Mewlon 250.

You can repond in private if that helps.

Thanks!
