High resolution H-alpha solar images

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi,

Here are two of my best recent solar H-alpha images of last week.

Scope was my 130TOA, with Baader C-ERF filter, and in the back the Etalon of a PST and a blocking filter. So I am working at effective aperture of 125mm.

The coloured moon just a tad bigger

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi,

Here you can find a recent mosaic image of the moon, made with my Mewlon 210.

I used 17 avi's with a DMK 41AF02 camera, and a stack of some colour images made with my Canon 20D.

Enjoy the view wink

Color moon mosaic Nov 29

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hello,

After about a month of zero activity due to bad weather conditions (and the very few clear nights I had to work of course), I managed to make a lunar mosaic with a new William Optics FLT110 with TMB designed lens I have on test.

The image (1.3MB, 3000x2000 pixels) can be found here:

http://www.astronomie.be/dodi/moon20061129.jpg

It is a mosaic of 8 avi's made with DMK 41AF02 and a few Canon 20D images for color.

Best regards

What is the cost of astrophotography?

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

Please don't take this too seriously, but I made a cost calculator for astrophotography.
How much does it cost me per image or per hour over 10 years. Values can be substituted by your own
investments and number of images per year wink. Loss of return on capital investment is taken at
5% per year (one has to take SOMETHING).

It may come in handy to convince your partner to get some new toy, or yourself you shouldn't bother to
get it smile.

It must be clear that the best investment is to be under clear skies and perform excellent and careful
post-processing of images... Or do remote observing (spreadsheet not for free use for those selling
scope time !! smile ).

As I said, don't take it TOO seriously, a hobby cost is what it is worth to yourself wink

My new website is online ! Finally.

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

i used the period of bad weather to rebuild my website and include next to astrophotography more regular photography as well (I didn't put anything online since 2004 on that branch).

The link is:

http://www.crea-te.com or if DNS fails http://users.telenet.be/create

Some images will require better than a dial up internet connection.

Thanks for looking !

Antwerp (Belgium) solution to light polution

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi all,

don't want you to miss this one, not really a CCD image but apparently a mighty clever
solution to light polution as implemented in the large city of Antwerp, Belgium :

http://www.indymedia.be/node/24359 (images towards the end of the page)

Seems like for the town council, the solution to see the stars is to install hundreds of LED's over a main square so people can see a "scientifically" correct night sky with "all constellations". Christmas in summer.

Ain't that a clever way to see the stars smile

Now, if they would just add some nice deep sky pics backlighted, we can forget about CCD's and make
the best images with a Canon Ixus smile

Mars under good conditions, finally.

Posted By Dominique Dierick

After a few reasonable tries the last weeks, this morning was quite ok with not too
much turbulence for my location in Ghent.
Mars was high in the sky in the early morning hours.

This image was made with my C11, using a DMK 31AF monochrome camera and Astronomik
RGB filters. Image composed as R(50%)-RGB.

Best regards and thanks for looking.

Simple photometry for Comet Holmes

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Hi,

Here's an image made from my rooftop (adventure with a tripod in the city smile ).
I blurred the image deliberately, so you can get a fairly good estimate of the comet brightness
(I have done a lot of visual comet work years ago wink ).

Best regards

Tiny, but very detailed Mars of last night

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Finally an evening off, and good seeing !

Many images to process, but here is a first quicky. C11 + DMK31 at f25.
I also updated my website with new looks, and finally a guestbook to leave your comments: http://www.crea-te.be

Best regards and thanks for looking !
