Yet another Saturn

Posted By Gregory Damiani

Certainly nothing to be embarrassed about. You have captured excellent detail on the globe (better than I ever have). Your focus is clearly very good.

Referring to your response to my "Solar System" post, If you haven't gotten any Jupiter images you like, its only a matter of time.

When you image Jupiter, how many images are you trying to stack, taken over how long a time frame. Keep in mind, Jupiter canges its appearance relatively "quickly." Is it possible you are trying to stack images that a too disimilar? Or, possibly Jupiter is still too low in the sky wnen you tru to image. Judging by your Saturn, your "Jupiters" should be fine.

Solar viewing, do you get bored with it quickly?

Posted By Gregory Damiani

I've had a PST for a few months now. I love the scope. I am looking forward to winter (I'm in So. FL). I observe much more often with the PST than my night scope. My observing sessions aren't as long with the PST, sometimes only 10-15 mins. I have the PST set up on a camera tripod. I was going to get a driven EQ 1 or 2 for tracking, but I don't really need it. I'm sure the larger aperture Ha scopes offer better views, but if you are afraid of getting bored, $500 isn't too much to risk. I don't think you'll be disapointed. I wasn't!

Best EQ mount for PST?

Posted By Gregory Damiani

I can't speak for the 60, but I have a PST. I was goiunt to get a small EQ to track, but decided I really don't need it. What I wouyld gain in tracking convenience, I would lose in weight. I have my PST on a camera tripod - and I REALLY can run outside for 5 or 10 minutes while the kids get dressed, etc.!

When I was consideringf an EQ, I was looking at Orions EQ1 or EQ2 with a single axis drive. I'd get the EQ2 w/the 60.

Observatory Destroyed...

Hello Ivan!

I'm glad you and your family are fine.

I also lost my screen enclosure (half of it was in my pool) trees and lots of roof tiles and power. My family is fine. The "backside" of the storm was awful! I was amazed to see the milkyway the first few nights.

I am glad to have my power (and phones) back, but I do miss the stars.

Good luck with the recovery. Be careful driving!
