Jupiter and Venus 03/19/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Jupiter and Venus from last night. The seeing got better as the evening went on. The Jupiter shot was the last of the series and I'm rather pleased with it.

Venus surprised me as it was over my house.

Jupiter 03/20/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

I caught this image last night. The dark spot is Ganymede on the face of Jupiter (not the shadow, the actual moon). Seeing was very nice (7/10) as soon as Jupiter cleared a bank of high clouds. I am hoping seeing holds for next week's triple eclipse.

Jupiter 03/21/04

It was windy and hot all day in Phoenix on sunday. I didn't expect much when I set up to image Jupiter last night. However, considering the conditions, I'd say that the final product is remarkably good!! I guess the seeing was better than I thought.

Jupiter 03/22/04 another double transit

Posted By Paul Maxson

I managed to capture an image of the double transit as well. I wasn't planning to shoot it, but heck...had the scope set up and it's only 3-5 minutes from setup to imaging, so what the heck. Seeing wasn't very good, but as Tom Davis said, it's worth it just to capture it. As you can see, the seeing didn't improve much later either...oh well.

Jupiter double transit

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here are images I made last night of Jupiter. The image to the left shows the nice double transit of Io and Europa. Seeing wasn't great, but it was worth shooting to get the event anyway...especially as a practice for the triple on sunday morning. Seeing did not improve later, as you can see.

Suggestion

Posted By Paul Maxson

This is just a suggestion or thought. I have seen so many great images in here and often the person posting doesn't post the telescope type, and sometimes when they do it's posted with some initials (RK-555 or something like that). I know it means something to the user, but for someone like me I still have no clue (usually) what type of scope it is. Normally I do a Google search to see what the heck an RK-555 is. I guess my suggestion would be to be to add the scope type and be just a bit more generic in the description...like with my recap when I say it's an 8" SCT.

Just my $.02 worth. Not trying to make a big deal out of this. It just makes it easier to see how what I manage to image stacks up against the beauties other's do.

Thanks!!

Jupiter 03/23/04

I guess I was due for an evening of really bad seeing...hopefully this was it and the triple transit on 03/28-03/29 and the really nice double transit on 03/30 will have much better seeing!! This was a 40 second shot to see how bad the noise would be with the few images stacked...but the bad seeing negated the experiment... LOL!!
