One more shot - from the other side of the wood plank he was using as a perch.

...and I took this not far away on a mountain stream. They breed in there, and this couple was bringing back as many insects to a hidden brood as they could. I had one neat shot of the bird grappling with a large flying bug with its beak open and everything, but it just didn't turn out well enough.

Chestnut-Sided Warbler

This species has seen a drastic drop in numbers in Georgia over the last 10-15 years. It requires 1-3 year-old clear cuts or intense burn areas at very high elevations, and most land like this is national forest and so fire suppression and conservation has actually had a negative impact on the birds.

I call this one "Proud Papa" - they only breed reliably in a park in Macon, GA.

"Where's mom?!"

That's what you might think after looking at this Anhinga's neck. Of course, he's just doing what comes natural to an Anhinga - but what a weird bird!

Great bird to find in GA, not too common but now is the time to get 'em. This bird was dashing around hunting fish as they are known to do. Taken on Cumberland Island, GA.

There is zero doubt that it is a Green Heron smile

Yellow-billed Cuckoo

Definitely an accomplishment, those guys are reclusive and elusive! I've probably heard at least 6-8 this year and only seen one, and it was flying over my head!

"Before and After"

...and this edited picture. I think it kind of makes the bird look "super-imposed" too much. Also, I could maybe play with the clone stamp more on the neck to smooth over the blotchy effects.

The right edge of the neck was the hardest because once I got rid of the green thing in the foreground the edge of the neck wasn't in the right light. I eye-dropped in the the existing bright edge and then hand-brushed the edge up to the chin and blurred it.

Anyway, hope no one minds me posting my experiments. Generally, I am not in the habit of hacking a picture this much, but it is fun to see what the program (and I) can do.

Taken with an Olympus C2100UZ and 1.7X teleconverter.
