Trifid and Lagoon despite the moon

Posted By Greg Bradley

I mounted my William Optics 80/480 triplet fluorite on top of my Nexstar 11 to see how it would go prior to a dark site trip.

Here is 10 x 60 second shots of Trifid and Lagoon nebulas and they were really close to the 3/4 moon last night. F6, no reducer/flattener.

Modified Nikon D70, Images Plus, Nikon Capture editor, ISO 1600. Unguided.

Mother of all globs

Posted By Greg Bradley

Here is the ultimate globular cluster - the Centre of the Milky Way. I wonder how many billions of stars are in that grouping.

50mm Nikkor lens, modded D70 8 x 30 seconds.
Images Plus, near perfect conditions at an unbeleivably good dark site.

Sagittarius just beyond the zenith at about 2:30am in the freezing cold (by Australian standards) with a portable gas heater!!

That's the Lagoon Nebula a bit to the right of centre. The one to the far right is the Eagle or the Swan not sure.

From this time of year until August the Milky Way stretches from one horizon to the other and through the zenith at earlier and earlier times in the evening. A stunning sight that photos don't really capture. Large and small Magellanic clouds plainly visible.

This little William Optics 80mm scope rocks.

The colours are what was recorded, virtually no colour processing.

M8 and M20

My primary imaging target last weekend at the dark site.

Lagoon and Trifid, not sure what that glob is.

I have a single exposure that shows a yellowish glob to the right of the Lagoon just out of these frames.

William Optics 80/480 F6, Nikon D70.
