NGC 1514 L-L(O3)-OSC...

Posted By dietmar hager

hi friends,

this is a re-processed version of that PN in taurus I posted a couple
weeks ago.
this time, it is a collaboration with Andras Dan, a hungarian friend
of mine, who has collected some narrow-band data with his 10" SC
f6.3; SXV H9 and Astronomik O3 filter.
6x15 minutes. gemini 42 EQ mount - direct drive system.
Andras is the head of Gemini: www.astronomy.hu

Andras let me kindly process this data to use it in addition to the
image I had already processed.

I used:
9" TMB Apo f/18 with a barlow lens and SXV H36
9" TMB Apo f/9 and M25C f/9 for color.

the O3 signal was too weak to use it a decent green channel,...nbut
strong enough for another additional luminance channel .

so here is the result of the cooperation of Andras and me:
PLEASE make sure to scroll down and navigate to the links that lead
to the newer versions:

thanks for taking another look!
best regards,

Dietmar + Andras

Tibet

Posted By dietmar hager

hi everyone,

many of you have learned in the mass media about the oppressed people of Tibet.
(I have learned for my friends who work for a peaceful solution for the "tibet-issue" and support tibetan refugees locally (in Tibet), in northern India and Nepal)
for many decades this people has been suppressed by the chinese government, that deprives them of their human rights.
here is a possibility to support a petition that has its goal in bringing the violations to an end by having both, chinese government and tibetan representative(s) (Dalai Lama) take a seat at a round table and find a peaceful solution.

http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/3.php

more data on Tibet can be found here:

http://hrw.org/englishwr2k8/docs/2008/01/31/china17604.htm

I wish to pronounce, that - by no means - I want to offend Chinese people; it is just about the chinese government that does not act according to human rights. smile

hi folks,

you have probably noticed Jim has been off the loop for quite a while now.
there has been a very serious private issue that kept him from imaging and posting to this group. but...after receiving a pm from him right now
I may pass his very best regards to all of you!
Jim is gonna be back soon!
I am looking forward to seeing Jim back to astro-work !

NGC 3718

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

after a long break due to bad weather for weeks I had almost excellent conditions last night!
so this couple of galaxies that were on my to-do list for more than one year had to be done at last.

please find all images and data on my website:

Tutorial on Pix Insight LE

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

I know this comes late, as there is a new and full scale version of this software on the market.
however, on request of many I have created a simple tutorial on 2 procedures I really love to perform in PixInsight LE.
The full scale version I know is capable of wonderful things, but is quite complicated, I think...
at least this is what keeps me from digging through this new software...(particularly the wavelet-function)
So still, I do 2 major steps in my DSI processing with Pix Insight LE.

there is one tut covering

- the creation of an arteficial flat; and one that covers

- background-noise processing with a mask

the arteficial flat is interesting for all those operating One Shot Color CCDs, as it is difficult to gain a decent flat with OSCs.

perhaps you find these useful.
please make sure to scroll down !

NGC 2158

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

here is an image I processed as a crop of the overview M35+NGC2158 I posted recently.

NGC 2158 looks like a glob. cluster but sure isn't.
it is pretty old, said to count some 1 Bio. years and seems to be located 10800 LY from earth. it's true nature was only revealed in the 70s last century.

we're looking at 2 hours total exposure time.
SXVF M25C - 4+8 min subframes.
5" TMB f/9

please find the image, all data and the overview including M35 here:

thanks for looking.
