Merope Nebula

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is my "first light" image with my SBIG ST2000XCM. It's been a tough climb just to get to the first level! I see how much more I have to learn!

IC 349

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Roland Christen pointed out that my first image of Merope showed (barely) IC-349 and suggested a series of shorter images would show it better. I tried that and here is the result. Shot with my Mewlon 250 at F/12 with my ST2000XCM camera, processed with CCDstack and post processed with Maxim DL, Photoshop, PixinsightLE and Astra Image. It's not crisp and sharp, seeing was about 6/10 and the moon was in th sky, but you can see it at 2 oclock near Merope. The inset is from the HST for comparison.

Thanks!!

Uranus and it's moons

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is another image of Uranus and 3 moons. I was still learning when I shot this. I think later images will turn out sharper.

M103 and M52

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

A couple of DSO images from early October last year that I'm finally getting processed. I'm not sure why M52 is showing little colour, but it definitely has a 3 colour histogram.

NGC 7662

Hi all,

As I move through my unprocessed images, here is NGC 7662, a very nice little planetary. Details on the image.

IC 349 and NGC 2392

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

With cloudy skies around here I have the chance to get some DSO processed. The first is rather unique. IC 349 is a dusty area just off Merope in the Pleades. Roland Christen pointed it out to me initially and I was able to image it with my SBIG ST2000. This image was shot with my Orion Starshoot mostly to prove that I could do it. Not fantastic, but definately there. I placed an insert from the HST as a guide as I have only seen two other images from amateurs.

The next is just good ol Snowball Nebula, also shot with the Orion.

Reticle illuminator

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I have an EM-200 mount that I really love, but for the life of me I cannot find the switch for the reticle illuminator for the polar alignment scope as referenced in the (sic!) documentation. From the sounds of it, there is supposed to be a switch and a way to adjust brightness. Can anyone help? (Does anyone have more clear instructions for polar alignment than the provided docs as well... **grin**)

Thanks!!

M1 over 3 days

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

This was my first try at this sort of a project where I accumulate data over multiple days. I am pretty happy with the results and possibilities. I accumulated 3 hours of data over the 3 days by getting 36x300 exposures. Seeing was probably my limiting factor as CCDInspector indicated it was 2.5-3". But all in all I'm encouraged at what can be done in 3.5 mag skies.
