Reassuring news: Obama never talked to half a dozen members of his cabinet

http://www.ihatethemedia.com/obama-never-talked-to-half-a-dozen-members-of-his-cabinet

Obama didn't speak to six of his cabinet members for the fist two years of his presidency. Tell me he isn't in way over his head with this job. The SOTU last night proved just how out of touch he is with the rest of America.

I hardly applaud everything--or even much--the President has done. Don't kid yourself, though, the people who scoffed at this speech are the extremists of both the left and the right. The rest of us are hoping he makes it work. We don't care about politics as a zero sum game like the birthers, the Freepers, the Code Pinkers, the Birchers, etc., etc.

Criteion Drive Corrector, HELP!

Posted By Rod Mollise

Neil Barnett said:

I picked this unit up without any paperwork. The seller let me take it WITHOUT payment till I can check it out.
I floundered around checking it, found no voltage variation, then discovered that it does frequency mods. The output runs about 213V at no load, and about 130 +/- volts with the RV-6 plugged in. Frequency goes from about 56 hertz to 63 hertz when plugged into the wall. I never did get any reading out of the 12V plug. I then forgot to get back to the seller for about 5 days and just recieved an inquiry. I'm a space

I really need specs and a copy of the full directions to correctly check this.

help,
Neil

The knob on the HC allows you to vary the driver corrector's frequency. That changes the speed of a synchronous motor, an AC motor, which is what this was designed for.

c8 VS 6" achro

victor truglio said:

For light poluted deep sky viewing, would you prefer an older c8 80's version not sure on the coatings or a 6" achro of a Celestron cr150 or Meade ar6 quality.
Thanks

If you must view in light polluted areas _always_ use as much apteture as possible. The C8 is the ticket.

C14 primary mirror

James Lynch said:

Help! I have a c14 and the primary mirror is not aimed with the baffle tube. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone ever removed the primary mirror from the base to shim it? Celestron wants a lot of money to fix their assembly mistake since it's out of warranty. Jim

In what way is it not "aimed with the baffle tube"? At any rate, forget shimming it. The primary is precisely RTVed into its fixture with a special jig. Bite the bullet and let C. fix it.

Celestron C5

Hello,
I am looking for a Celestron C5,spotter possibily, although I have seen a Celestron Nexstar 5i and the focus knob is placed in a position very imconfortable to use, anyone know if all models of Celestron C5 have the focus knob on the same position? (below back focus)
Thanks,
Paco

No idea what you mean by "below back focus." All C5s have the focus knob in the same place. The moving mirror focusing design means they have to.

Eyepiece Dew

I am getting frustrated with this issue. I'd rather not get the whole heater set-up, so I was thinking...is there anything wrong with just bringing the EPs in the house (warmer) and then taking them outside when viewing (in the outdoor observatory)?

They'll fog right up then. Best bet? Keep an eyepiece you are not using in a pocket. Usually, if you dew is not too bad the heat from your eye will keep the one in use clear. Dewheaters really are a far better and less annoying solution. If you are on a budget, get one of the little 12vdc hair-driers/dew zappers.

Religion

You actually read this and still took it seriously? Methinks somebody is pulling your leg. LOL.

The ground truth...while this is something that's incredibly difficult to quantify, the figures I've seen place Christianity's growth behind Islam at 1.38% vice about 1.4%.

Surprisingly, the up and comer is...BUDDHISM. And maybe it is about time. wink

You'd think this "museum" would have better things to do. Further, I note that while they did not like these men, they sure did like their money. No suprise there. wink

Runaway slews on Advanced Series CG-5 GoTo mount.

Posted By Rod Mollise

robin woolsey said:

I recently attempted to set up my C8 on my CG-5 and when I move the mount in right ascension with the controller, I loose control and the mount tries to runaway. I have to kill the power to keep it from damaging the mount. Any one else ever had this problem?
robin sad

The usual suspects are poor power and poor cables. Check all cables and connections and run the mount with a fully charged battery every time.

I need to know the procedure and star names to set the mount up so it knows how far the scope is off. thanx Jim

Have you read the manual? If not, you need to do so. You can get the manual from Celestron's website.
