M82 (me again...)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Taking the advice in this area, I increased my sub length to 10 minutes each for this image of M82 for a total of 90 minutes. I hope it looks ok, I feel ok about it. Seeing was not good again, around 4.5" FWHM. Normally April is a good seeing month for me, but not this year. This is actually an LRGB image (I extracted the lum layer from each sub).

Hints and tips welcomed.

Thanks again!!

Multi-night exposures...

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I'm curious how much effort, or what tricks you use in aligning your camera for multi-night imaging. For instance, you want several hours on a DSO over 3-4 nights, what tricks do you use to get the camera in the same orientation each time. Or do you make up for it mostly during processing. Now that I have the ED100 on the Atlas mount and can depend on good guiding, I am trying to get lots and lots of time on each DSO (as needed).

Thanks!!

M81 reworked

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I'm always learning, maybe not as fast as I want to, but striving to pick this up. I reworked an image I made of M81 last week and I think it looks much better. Terry Tuggle has been a big help, and learning a few CCDStack tricks hasn't hurt. Another thing I have learned is I really need more and longer subs. I'm posting the first image and the reworked image. I'm struggling with the colour balance in the ST2000XCM. I set the percents at 80-100-100 for RGB, but it still looks too red.

Sunspot from last November

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I'm getting images of the current sunspot group (10953), but I just processed some interesting H-a shots of 10923 from last November. This was the group that came across the sun when Mercury transited. I was very fortunate to capture the group as it was moving off the limb, the group almost looks 3-D. I also caught a couple of larg proms.

Oddly, my white light images really didn't turn out too well.

My attempt at M51

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is an image I made of M51 shot over 4 days, total of 4 hours of subs. I'm not sure what the two very poorly placed artifacts are, but I'll check each frame to see. This was processed as one shot colour with CCDStack 1.3 beta. Next I'm going to process each of the RGB frames as I have in the past to see if there are differences. Sure wish I had better seeing/darker skies in my back yard....oh and it's over 100 degrees today too. **Grin**

Hi all,

Leaving the dark side for a moment to process some Saturn from last year. This one turned out acceptable.
