My latest set of toys!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are a couple of images of my latest toy and my old toy. The new toy is a Skywatcher ED120 on an Atlas EQ6 mount. I like the colours better than the Orion version. The images in the 120 are really nice.

M51 processing results compared

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

A while back I posted a 4 hour exposure of M51 with the ST2000 camera and ED100 scope. It looked ok, but I needed to keep trying to see if I could make it better, partly because it was a beta test of CCDStack 1.3 and partly for my own sanity. I reprocessed the 16 -15 minute subs again in a different way, and here is the result. I posted the first try next to the second try. To make sure it was my CCDStack processing method I will be trying this with a series of M104 I got. Anyway I wanted to post for comments and suggestions.

Thanks!!

LRGB question

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Ok...I made the jump....I ordered an SBIG ST10 on sale with the 5 place colour wheel. I'm supposed to get it Wednesday. I image you shoot L one evening since you want a bunch of that and RGB the other evening(s). My question, is when you are gathering the RGB data do you get all your red, then green, then blue at once, or do you shoot one frame of each and repeat until you get all the total subs you want?

Thanks!!

Mars this morning

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I shot this image of Mars this morning with a red filter. It's not too good yet, but I'm happy to be seeing detail again. Syrtis Major, Hellas and the SPC are easily seen. Mars was about 5.6" when this was shot with my Mewlon 250 at F/30. Lots (!) more to come over the next months.

Re: AR 10960

I managed to capture 10960 with my new ED120 and Baader solar filter...first light if you will. I couldn't do H-a as I don't have an adapter plate for the ED120 yet.

Saturn again from last November

Posted By Paul Maxson

Moving very slowly on my old images as I play with my new toys, but here is a decent Saturn from last November.

M13 - first attempt at LRGB

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is my first attempt to do LRGB with my new ST10 camera. I have a ways to go I know, but we all gotta start somewhere. The most frustrating thing about the image is the tracking which I haven't been able to narrow down yet.

Suggestions are welcomed.

Mars June 1, 2007

Not very good yet, but seeing wasn't totally good either. This was shot with an IR filter, which gave me the best final image.

Mars.....with dust!!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Looks like Mars is getting active. Here are a couple of images showing dust in the Noachis region. Jim Melka spotted this a couple of days ago and it has intensified to this point.

Hi all,

This is Mars from this morning. Seeing was fair and got better as sunrise closed in.
