Mars Oct 2, 2007

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is an image from this morning. Lots of clouds only allowed me to get 1/2 of an imaging run (less than 1000 frames). The result makes me wish it had been clearer.

Mars October 4, 2007

Hi all,

I went out at 4am to shoot Mars and was clouded out. Well, went back to bed, got up and was ready to bring the scope in just in case it rained at about 6am and the sky was clear. Change of plans, I set up and got this image. Just goes to show that patience is a virtue. Mars really seems to be huge and it's just barely 10".

Wierd IcCapture behavior

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I got my DMK camera the other day and installed the IcCapture software successfully. I did first light this morning on Mars and Venus. The Mars session went fine, but I got some weird results when doing Venus. I was using a UV filter for my first three runs, and I have the frame capture limit set to 2000. I get a nice image and do the capture, with the screen confirming 2000 frames in each capture session. When I went to process the avi in Registax, the program shows 6000 frames in the first sequence and 10000 in the next two. Turns out (to make a long story short) that I had the 2000 original images and 2 exact copies in the 6000 seq and 4 exact copies in the 10000 seq, in other words only 1/3 and 1/5 of the sequences were unique images. Needless to say, they did not process very well. I painstakingly extracted the 2000 unique frames in one sequence and processed it and it turned out fairly nice. Oddly, this did not happen during my Mars run 2 hrs earlier or after I removed the UV filter for two w.l. Venus runs immediately after. I have not heard of this elsewhere. Somehow my DMK yahoo group membership got removed, so after I get back into there I'll ask there too.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi all,

Here is a series of images I made of Mars on October 9. The RGB images were shot with my SKY 2-0C camera and the blue, red and IR were shot with my DMK mono camera. These B&W images represent first light with the DMK.
