Open cluster ngc7789

Hi all,

ngc7789 is one of my favorite clusters to look at visually. I've hunted it down with a 70" and 100mm reractors and 6,8, 12 & 18 inch reflectors and it always provides a great view.

I took this image with a Televue Gensisis SDF and a ST10XME its a RGB with the Lum made up of the red and blue channels, 15 mins exposures each channel. The image was taken with a near full moon out and the gradients were wicked.

Sorry about the first blunder, there was some problem with uploading the image I was unaware of.


I finally got some color for this image. It's been cloudy and not good imaging weather in PA. In addition the seeing has been very poor lately.

Taken with a Vixen VCL200 at f6 (using AP focal reducer) and a ST10XME. 25:10:10:10 minutes each channel

Which would you pick ?

Hi,

There are two dream refractors for sale on Astromart I saw today. An AP 7" F7 for $32,000 and a TMB 9" F9 for $29,000. Given that price is not a problem (not true for me, but I can dream ) which of these two would you get ?

If I was single and did't have any additional responsibilities I would blow my bank accout and get the TMB just for the additional aperture. But others may want the AP. I would love to here which and why. Come on now we all can dream !

Hi,

I'm going to Cherry Springs State Park in Pa this weekend fot the Black Forest Star Party, ..see the dark sky map, I can't wait transparent skies are predicted by the clear sky clock.

I usually take my 12.5" dob when I travel but this time the 18" is going .. the Jeep is bulging at the seams, but I don't care.

an old image reprocessed with some new skills in an attempt to get a better color balance. Taken with a Televue Genesis SDF at f5 and a ST8E camera. It's a HaRGB 120:20:20:20 minutes exposure. Image cropped and reduced to 60 % of full size

Back from Cherry Springs

hi all,

It was a great weekend at the Black Forest Star Party at Cherry Springs Park in PA. The skies were good until 3am when the ground fog took over. Milky Way horizon to horizon and mag 6.5 at the zenith until then. A lot of folks and scoepes there ... a guess about 400 to 500.

I brought my 17.5 f4.1 dob and Televue Genesis SDF for my wife and I to use. The folks next camp site were using a 24" and a 30" dob with Nova mirrors and great oppertunity to compare a "small dob" with the "big boys".

I bought a Lumicon 2" Oiii filter and put it on my Pan 35 plopped it in the 17.5 and climbed up from m8 to m16. The 17.5 held its own against the 24" and I actually preferred the views in the 17.5 + filter vs an unfiltered 24.

The 30" of course was a different story...unforgettable views of anything the owner put in the eyepiece. ( he is a starhopper by the way and faster finding stuff then anyone I have ever seen ..I'm talking about 30 seconsds per object. ) The cats eye for instance showed internal structure with the 30" but not in my scope. M13 was like a ccd image, ngc 6207 ? the little galaxy next to it was like one of the brighter M object galaxies as seen in my C8.

Anyway it was a great time and experience ...going back there soon

Is rms of .022 good, very good or excellent ?

Hi,

I have a f6 6" mak-newt with some optical papers which give the following information

Interferometric Test Result

PtV 0.092 RMS 0.022


The scope visually puts up a really great image. Can someone translate these numbers for me ?

hi,

here's an image of ngc 7331 and friends ( the deer lick group) in Pegasus. Taken with a Takahashi Mewlon 250 at f9 , 1 hr exposure ( 10 min subs) and a ST8E. Reprocessed old data from last year.

why would someone sell this so soon ?

The question is why would someone sell this so soon after buying it ?

he says

" Selling because my aperture needs have not stabilized as yet. "

i would think anyone who pays this price for 5" of aperture knows what they are buying. Is it the hype surrounding apo's and the misunderstading of what they are best used for ?
