Eastern Phoebe

Posted By James Robinson

Haven't seen one of these posted in a while. There were several out on these logs "hawking" flies.

Or is it a hairy?

I downloaded the free google Picasa program for organizing photos this evening and it is cool! I suggest you check it out if you don't have anything you like, or even if you do.

Northern Flicker

Posted By James Robinson

These guys are very shy, and very aware of my presence. I sat and waited a long time for this one to come out, when it finally did it was basically flying full speed and took off.

Taken in the usual patch of wetlands near the house. Most of my bird pics are from the same small patch of woods / wetlands near my house. No more than a couple of acres total. I've grown so fond of this spot I started a PBase site dedicated to it. Its pbase dot com jtrobins/gallery/miles_river. I hope to eventually have a shot of every bird species I've observed there, but that will take some time.

Northern Flicker

Male flicker outside his nest cavity. The female is also around. I'm not sure if the young are gone yet or not, hope not I'm hoping to see them.

The limbs are a bummer but this nest is well protected and the birds are keenly aware if you try to approach too close.

D70 with TV Ranger at prime focus.

Flapping Loon

Posted By James Robinson

I just returned from a week on a small lake in the center of Maine. This was one of many loons I encountered kayaking on the lake in the early morning. They would tolerate me quite close in the kayak.

Pair of terns

Posted By James Robinson

The resident terns of Lake Onawa, Maine. These are ornery birds, when approaching too close in the Kayak they would take off and circle squawking and faking dives in a threatening manner.

American Coot

Posted By James Robinson

The coots are back, probably not for long. I don't normally see these in Eastern Mass. I assume they will continue on to warmer climes soon.
