Paul, the moon shot you took and showed us on this forum...was that taken as eyepiece projection and if so...how close was the Nagler eyepiece to the CCD?. I am finishing up on an eyepiece adapter to try projection in the upstairs window planetarium.

Consistant with cutting edge technology :-) I will use the Southern window and try for the 30 to 75 degree elevation of the moon and planets. The 15-30 degree East imaging is hopeless.......to much pertebration in definition. LarryS.

Last evening it occured to me that the astroid that hit Russia recently came in at a specific angle relative to our polar axis. Knowing the date and time it would seem to me that with modern astronomy programs(I don't have one) we should be able to go back to that date/time, and using the angle of impact determine what region of the sky it came from roughly....(due to suns gravitational field.). Then going back into recent history or prehistory see if there is further evidence of astrooids coming from a definite area of the sky. I am and have been consumed for a long time with the K-T event 65 MYA(Iridium layer)...and am suggesting that many of the "NEAR EARTH OBJECTS"(NEO's)...that present a real or potential danger to Earth may have a common SOURCE of higher probability. Again all of this is a half-baked thought...that might be worth pursuing... There was recent evidence of another hit in Africa I believe, if such information was organized and researched we might have a better idea of where to look for the higher probability astroids....which will trash all of our beautiful telescopes in a matter of seconds/hours and us with it. -LarryS.

Interesting refractor focal plane align image.

This was done with a barlow & CCD camera lens aimed at nothing. CCD mounting assy was not quite centered in first daylight image. (this is a Philips color camera, not a 675K)

By the time I finished centering the CCD mounting assembly it was night....so I just aimed at a streetlight without focusing.

I might be wrong but....the care in this operation could make the difference in stacking results of a sky object should I ever see the sky here. -continued celestial oatmeal in my vacinity.

After staring at an equatorial mount and a astronomy program which uses a mouse cursor for body identification...it occured to me just now that coupling a mouses ball movement to the telescope mount in some way that corresponds to positioning in elevation and azimuth would be a very neat (and cheap) asset.

It wouldn't be GoTo, but could be "WhereAt"..... :-)

Any creative ideas here?. The ball turns X-Y rollers internally which has potential possibilities. -LarryS.

All of the old catagories like the "Workshop" etc. have disappeared and it now appears to be just a message board.

I have withdrawn from the group for that reason. Am I correct in believing the main research has pulled out from under Yahoo control?.
