Jupiter 03/23/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

I guess I was due for an evening of really bad seeing...hopefully this was it and the triple transit on 03/28-03/29 and the really nice double transit on 03/30 will have much better seeing!! This was a 40 second shot to see how bad the noise would be with the few images stacked...but the bad seeing negated the experiment... LOL!!

Venus, Mars and Jupiter

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here are 3 shots from last night. The first is Venus shot through an Optica UV filter, then Mars!! Mars is less than 5" of arc and while not much detail can be seen, certainly Mare Sirenum is barely visible. I'm surprised that there was any detail at all!! Finally is Jupiter.

I hope others have better luck, I could just barely make it out....I'm not happy with the result, but here is mine.

Triple Transit sequence

Posted By Paul Maxson

As you know, my seeing wasn't great...or good...or decent...in fact it was down right bad!! But I still got the following 9 image sequence. 10 years from now I'll look back at it and go "BLECH!!", but hey...it's a rare event and this is the best I could do. smile

And I'll be out Monday evening trying my best with the double transit!!

Jupiter 03/28/04...evening after the Triple

Posted By Paul Maxson

So...the seeing was decent 5 hours before the triple transit, and pretty nice the evening after, but not during. But I'm not mad...nah!! Here is Jupiter from last night, the evening after the triple. Funny thing is that it was breezier than Sunday morning during the triple, yet the images are much better. Go figure!! smile

SCT question

Posted By Paul Maxson

Has anyone ever measured their images at prime focus on an F/10 SCT? I measured a few of my Jupiter images tonight and if K3CCD is correct, with my Toucam in place, my system is giving very close to F/9 at prime focus. That, of course, throws off all my other focal ratios with the barlows I use. Not sure if it's my imagination or what? Just curious...

Jupiter double transit 03/29/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Seeing sure cooperated better last night for the double transit than Sunday morning for the Triple...also a hearty collimination session didn't hurt either. All images shot for 60 seconds at 15fps. The probably degraded the images somewhat, but helped keep the shadows as close to round as possible.
