By the way, with the pier extension, mine DOES reach zenith.
This is a really cool setup -- fast to set up and align, reliable goto, not very shaky for pot metal and plastic. I hope you enjoy yours!

When cutting aluminum, use plenty of beeswax and take your time. I routinely cut stock 1.5" thick with my bandsaw.

I have a very small yard, so I built a 4'x5' shed that rolls away from my pier. It was built in my driveway as a series of panels, then moved to the yard to be painted and bolted together. It moves very easily on five-inch casters.

THis is really intriguing. From your pic, I can't tell if there is any metal around your lens. I've turned several lens cells on my lathe -- probably not that difficult to get an aluminum one made for your lens.
