Lack of Interest?

Read that BO will be introducing his 80MM F/11 Planetary refractor...he's already hyping this as being able to maintain ridiculously high power (shocking...this guy cannot control himself)..I frankly don't see allot of interest in this type of scope. Any comments.

Is Market Softening?

Just noticed that one of the Chinese/Taiwanese manufacturers reduced the price of their new 90MM scope by $300...wondered if the market may be softening or is this one of those "tweener" apertures that can't find an audience. There is also the possibility of this price drop being in anticipation of other less expensive Chinese 90MM scopes entering the market in the near future (just a thought).

I see another Chinese optics vendor is announcing 90mm and 111mmm triplets with a price point for the 90mm at $1295 and the 111mm at $1895...all with two elements of FPL-53 glass and 2.7 inch R&P dual speed focusers. I think we're about to also see a rash of doublet announcements within this aperture range that will have lower color performance. FINALLY the larger scopes are coming with potential of true APO capabilities. EXCITING!

There was a report on the Yahoo Refractors group that Burgess is "preannouncing" (pardon the euphemism) a 91mm F7.6 fluorite doublet refractor using either Ohara S-LAL14 or LZOS CTK12...is this the long lost "son of the Backpacker"...think we should "start the clock" to see how long this one will take to reach actual production.

You can't offer 8 quality eyepieces and one quality 90mm APO (with true fluorite objective) for a thousand dollars...you can't make a business case for this...YOU CAN'T!

Burgess Backpacker Coming Soon?????

I noticed on the Burgess website that the old image of the Backpacker has been removed and it's mentioned that it is "coming soon". Anyone know anything...hard to believe this would be another false alarm (although with Burgess you never know). Wonder if he'll display something at WSP.
