Ganymede, June 29

Here's an image of Ganymede from June 29, it's my best image yet of this moon and shows several albedo features. I've included the JPL simulator image for reference.

This is 7500 frames of video taken through an Astrodon Red filter (I-series) at 14m focal length. Raw data was upsampled to 2x original size for processing.

Two nights ago I found some good seeing for a while, here's a colour composite image of Saturn, approx 1500 frames in R and G, and 1200 in B.

Some good seeing again for a while last night, just after 1am. This is an animation of two red channel images taken a few minutes apart. A lot of cloud detail is visible, as well as two moons.

Conditions on Jupiter were the best so far this season, maybe 7/10 on average during this capture. Io and its shadow are well positioned here, and with sufficient averted imagination a dark spot can be seen near the south pole (top) on Io.

Oval BA is very faint, but there is another small storm adjacent to it at the same latitude that's even more visible, and a reddish spot between them. This might need closer wathcing to see what's going on here..

*Note both Io and its shadow have had their RGB layers realigned to compensate for its proper motion while the data was captured. Io was aligned and stacked separately to maximise the visible details.

Seeing was reasonably good for a short while this morning around 2000UT (6am local time).

Items of note are the very pale Oval BA with the dark jetstream material on one side, and a small red storm and white storm on the other. The white storm is particularly visible in the blue channel. There are a few intense red storms in the NPR as well as a bright white rift in the NEB.

Hi All,

Seeing was very good for a while this morning, again hard to estimate precisely but I'd guess well under 1", maybe 0.5" at the best when the small dark spots seen here were clearly visible in all channels.

The rift in the NEB has grown very complex, and there is also some more complex structures closer to the south pole (bottom) just below one of the intense dark spots.

The GRS continues to be very pale.

Some of Pauls good seeing has come across this way last night, here's an image from 2.38am this morning showing the GRS and some interesting activity in the Northern Tropical Zone.

This was taken with a new scope, currently using a Royce 14.5" conical but soon to be replaced with a composite 16" from Mark Suchting.

Finally some clear skies! After 2 weeks of rain and cloud the weather was predicted to be cold and frosty, so it was time to try Jupiter again...

The seeing was mostly poor but there was a short burst of reasonable seeing around 3:10am, with the ambient temp at -1C it was the coldest night of imaging so far this season.

Jupiter shows many details, including the Oval BA complex near top centre, and some very dark spots in the North Polar region (bottom). The darkest of these spots seems to have a bright centre but it will need better seeing to resolve it properly.

The NEB is very active, with a number of visible rifts and festoons reaching up toward the equator. By contrast the SEB has very quiet activity.
