USDII to Temma2M Upgrade

Back in 2009 Takahashi Japan advertised on their website that older Takahashi mounts (USD, USDII, USDIII, Temma2) could be upgraded to the latest Temma2M. A costly upgrade but possible and saves forking out $$$'s for a new mount (particularly if the USD version) and the pain of selling the old mount.

Anyone had this upgrade done to their mount?

Anyone know if this upgrade is still available?

Astro-Physics Focuser

I am looking at replacing the focuser on a APOMAX 130 f/12 refractor. I like the idea of the Astro-Physics 4" or 3.5" version. Has anyone fitted one of these focusers to a non Astro-Physics scope. Alternately I could go with a Starlight Instruments 3.5" focuser.

Tak Mewlon 250 adapting to G-11

Sincere thanks to Kent and James for their suggestions. I was looking for a solution to one problem (Mewlon to G-11) and found, in addition, a better mounting option for my Tak FSQ-106.

I doubt you could use the Extender Q on any other scope other than a Takahashi, mainly trying to find any adaptors to configure the Extender Q to your scope. Originally it was designed for the FSQ-106 then it became an accessory for the TOA-130. I have read reviews from owners of FS-128 and FS-152 that they have successfully used the Extender Q on these scopes.

Why not look at the excellent Televue Powermates (X2.5, X2, X4 and X5)they acheive the same thing the Extender Q does.

Have you tried looking at the Takahashi System Charts for the FS-102-128N 'Photo-Visual System' available on the Texas Nautical Repair website.
It looks like you do need a special type of adaptor.

Beginner eyepiece focus question

You have the guru of Takahashi over there in the US of A, Art Campi from TNR and he would be the best person to ask about the extension tubes you require. It's odd because I read somewhere that the Japanese prefer straight through view as opposed to using a diagonal. TNR also has accessories schematics on their website for their scopes that shows all the adaptors you require for any type of viewing or imaging. But I'd drop Art an e-mail (wish we had someone like him here in Australia).

None of it was negative but just a bit of humour. Everyone in the world wide astronomical community knows about Roland and his company Astro-Physics and the excellent products they have on offer. The Astro-Physics line of scopes a revered and coveted by a good majority of people, myself included the only draw back is the extended time you have to wait to acquire one of Rolands scopes. But given the meticulous nature of his manufacturing process (very rare in today's industry...sort of Swiss in nature)you can appreciate the wait.

Yes you currently own a 20" Nova Optical Telescope but no doubt one day you will attend a star party and get the opportunity to look through a Astro-Physics scope and be assimilated in the collective.

Sorry on my part if I offended you or Roland...guess it's the dry Aussie wit. sad

Tripod Leg Question

The way the EM200 mounts (single centre point mount) to the wooden tripod is different to the way that the NJP mounts (3 point mount with 10mm bolts I think). Takahashi makes tripods in various lengths so you should be able to find an X-Tra long leg length tripod. Ask the boys at Anacortes or Art at TNR. The NJP is the only mount in the Takahashi range that has this three point equatorial head to tripod set up. There is an adaptor to adapt the NJP & EM400 configuration but I am not sure they have one to go from EM200 to NJP.

NJP-LL Tripod Question

Looking at the bolts that secure the NJP Equatorial Head onto this tripod using these three holes I am a bit confused. The bolts I use are a 10mm x 12.9mm Hex Head and my tripod hasn't been altered. I believe the 10mm bolts are are standard size to secure the NJP Equatorial Head to this tripod. 5/16" is close to an 8mm bolt yet you say the previous owner has tapped these holes out. Please forgive if I have stuffed the maths up. Are you sure that these holes have been tapped out and are 5/16". Not trying to be a pain or finding fault...just trying to help out.
