Mars is getting smaller!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is a Mars from April 22 when it was 6" of arc. I'm still getting images and hope to image when Mars gets to about 5", but that will depend on how close to my house it is.

Hi all,

Seeing wasn't good, it was windy, but the storm shows up nicely.

Mars and Saturn on May 20.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I took heed of the filters Bird is using for his Jupiter images and bought a set (Astrodon Series I, 2nd generation) and am impressed. Here are Mars and Saturn using those filters. The seeing was pretty bad, I was fighting 20mph winds and 100+ temps. The two things that stood out for me was that in each colour, especially blue and red, the images were noticeably brighter than the Astronomik filters I had been using. Also, when I combined the LRGB images, the colour balance was very close. I only needed to do some minor adjustments to get where I am now. Of course, since I got the filters the weather has not cooperated one bit. I mean, come on...snow in Arizona in late May! Good thing I didn't buy a new telescope or something like that!

The Saturn image shows what has happened to the storms.

My first Jupiter of the year.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is my first Jupiter of the year. Only 35 degrees up here, so I'll take what I can get. The moon is Europa.

My first Jupiter of the year - reprocessed

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I reprocessed the Jupiter image I posted earlier using the tutorial given by David Pretorius and I think the results speak for themselves. One image doesn't tell the whole story, but so far the results are encouraging. Specifically I used his section with Astra Image and RGB combining. Thanks David!!

Lunar mosaic

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I found these images I shot back in May. I guess I intended to turn them into a mosaic, so I put them together and while the seeing wasn't fantastic, it turned out ok.
