Echo of disaster....

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Larry, why are you still in your chair smile

I hope SH will for once will have the cleverness NOT to use these things - provided he still has them, and operational.

Are we pawns?

James,

Where can we find that doctrine. You made me curious.

Why do countries we saved treat us so shabbily?

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Because in the meantime there happened to be more recent things that were not so clever? People's memory is quite short, the WWI generation is gone, and the WWII nearly too. So better build up some credit again smile

I *really* hope SH doesn't do silly things, or your country will be doomed for years. Even if it will be SH who pulls the trigger to use bio-chem weapons, perhaps killing thousands of his own population in a "grand finale", I fear the US will take the blame for it in the public opinion and in the Arabic nations.

Why do countries we saved treat us so shabbily?

Hi James,

I think it is more subtle than this. Nobody in the EU wants to give up their language, so everything gets translated in all languages (imagine!). Not only the French speak no English. Ever heard a Spanish or Italian speak English? As rare as a French speaking English.

The problem is the French parties are under enormous pressure from the extreme nationalist Front Nationale from Jean-Marie Le Penn. They are rather popular in recent years and all democratic parties had to join together to get Chirac elected, or the president would have been an extreme right-winged nationalist. It is logical and understandable (but not necessarily good) that the other parties do a step towards some more nationalism to counter the extreme right.

REAL New information

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Are we afraid of reality of war? That's what's happening out there you know! Would you have also removed a link to a picture of the little girl running away from napalm with her skin peeling off her back in Vietnam?

I am a photographer, and sometimes realities are harsh, but by hiding them, we don't do anybody anygood. War is no video game.

Anyway, it's your forum, so I accept the rules of the house if you want to remove links you don't like.

Freedom of press?

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Euh, pretty much not of an excuse to beat up journalists is it?

If journalists cannot operate freely, something tells me someone wants to hide something smile Besides, journalists have deontology, and I have never seen anything strategically revealed by independent journalist.

Freedom of press?

I know. See Italy, where Berlusconi not only ownes most of private broadcasting, but also influences official news channels since he leads the country.

Make sure you control all information channels, and you rule...

Re: Bigger picture

Posted By Dominique Dierick

I think you hit the nail on the head Mike.
And WHY is it the population in those countries would elect these kind of leaders? Because we are extreme good friends with governments that oppressed their population for years, spreading great wealthness to friends and families, but not the population. And because of course we measure Israel differently than other countries. We have seen the palaces of SH now, but step into Saoudie or Kuwait or Qatar and you will see the same things.

If I were to live in one of the muslim countries, you can be sure I would be one hell of an anti-american. I am not, so I try to keep it balanced. I have good american friends, I don't judge the population by the acts of a governement.

Muslim 'civil war'?

Posted By Dominique Dierick

I have seen a few burned out Abrams tanks on tv lately you know. But to answer your question: no, I don't think their will be massive civil wars througout the entire region. Perhaps in Iraq itself yes.

I read that one of the exiled iraqi persons brought in to play a role in an interim governement, and now present with a small army of "freedom" volunteers in South Iraq, was condemned for fiscal fraud in Jordany, and is persona non grata in many arab countries. He was brought in by the Pentagon. Bad strategy. Hope they find others with less dark backgrounds.

Do you know the way to San Jose?

Posted By Dominique Dierick

Sure, but no thanks. I like my freedom too much.
