70mm Pronto Versus 10" Dob

I've owned both and while the Pronto is a great little scope, the operative term is "little". It is outstanding for wide field and is quite good on planets and the moon. As far as deep sky, however, it's still a 70mm scope. It IS however extremely handy - while I owned mine, it was probably my most-used scope.

Was CSSP a washout???

Saturday night was awesome, but the rest was pretty much described by the subject line - a washout. The talks were great, especially the one by Rod Mollise. As far as I'm concerned, any star party isn't a total washout when you can spend time with a bunch of star-crazed like-minded crazy people! I made some new friends and caught up with some old ones. Only real down side was that I didn't win anything this year at the door prize raffle!

I'd watch the eBay "Telescope" section and sort it by closest to you geographically as they're undoubtedly local thieves. You might also want to check with local pawn shops. I DO assume you told the police(?) They might have had other complaints of thefts in the area by someone driving a loud vehicle.

Any opinions on the Oberwerk 20x80 Lightweights?

This sounds obvious, but if you can check them out before you actually plunk down your bucks, make SURE the two optical chains (i.e. tubes) line up. I haven't looked through a pair of these where they DID (at least to my satisfaction). I used to own some Orion Megaview 15 X 80s and they were magnificent!

Close Cell Foam-How to Cut?

I use an electric knife - the same one I use for Turkey at Thanksgiving. This is what the ladies use in the fabric stores to cut their foam, so it MUST be the right way if the ladies do it!

Found a unitron telescope

I was REALLY hoping nobody on this site bought it - I was the one that had them put the additional picture of the objective on the site... It looks to me like it was dropped on the objective end and most of the edge got chipped. I thought about buying it and masking it down to about 45mm, but decided that the damage was bad enough that I didn't want to take the risk. Let us know how it is when it shows up - I hope it isn't bad news.
