TV 26mm Nagler vs 27mm Panoptic

I owned both, used them side by side for a while. The Nagler is better, at least as sharp and contrasty, without the pincushion seen in the Panoptic. Plus that huge FOV. I sold the 27 Pan.

However, since you have budgetary considerations, the 27 Pan is a wonderful eyepiece and you would be very happy with it. In your position, I would buy one used (should run $250) and save up until you have enough extra, sell the Pan for about the same as you paid, and get the 26 Nagler.

Another option, if you can go to 24mm, is the new 24 Panoptic. Tiny in comparison to the other two eyepieces.

Go Blue!!! I was a student there back in the Bo and Woody days, and it doesn't get any more intense than this. The Buckeyes are probably a better team this year, especially since we still have Navarre (combines the best of all worlds -- inaccurate, doesn't read defenses well, rattles easily, throws side-arm so his ball is easy to block, and runs slower than my grandmother) and an offensive line that can't punch a hole in a paper bag.

However, in this rivalry you can throw out the records. Michigan has absolutely nothing to lose, OSU has everything to lose, a dangerous combination for OSU.

A-P dew shields

Depends on the scope. On the Traveler and Stowaway, the dew shield is captive and slides back and forth. It is very snug, no play at all when extended. On the 155 EDFS, the dew shield is removable, stows on the scope reversed. On the 10" Mak, the dew shield is separate and doesn't stow on the scope. Not sure if the 130 is like the Traveler or like the 155.

Not much to be done. They are giving the customers what they want -- a cheap telescope. Keep in mind that $100 scope has to have a profit in it for Meade and a profit for the retailer. Not much money left for quality. If they made them any better, they'd be more expensive and they'd sell a lot fewer. The people would buy someone else's cheap scope.

Many parents buy these things because the kid _really, really_ wants a scope. But last week, he _really, really_ wanted something else in which he has now lost interest. Next week it will be something different. How much should they spend on something that is likely to end up in the closet anyway?

About the only change I see necessary is that the manufacturers should be prevented from lying on the box. No Hubble pictures. In that respect, Meade is _much_ worse than Celestron.

I had both, side-by-sided them for some time before deciding which to keep. I kept the 22. Performance is close, but the 22 has a bit better contrast, eye placement is a little more comfortable.

They sell that stuff because that's what the majority of buyers want. In fact, 98% of their scopes sold are such scopes, only 2% are serious instruments.

There is no sliding eyecup on the 13N t6. I use the 13 N t6 in both a 92.5mm f/4.9 apo and a 105mm f/5.8 apo for birding and it is a pleasure to use. No daytime experience with the Pentax, so can't help with a comparison.

I owned the Fujinon 16x70's for some time before I bought the Zeiss 15x60 B/GA T*. I did extensive side by side comparisons and the Zeiss were the clear winner in every aspect. They exhibit better contrast, better color correction, better edge performance, and (surprisingly, given the aperture difference) are a bit brighter. As an added plus, they are only about 7" long by 8" wide, making them hand-holdable. They also have center focus and can be used for long distance birding, but not close focus. I sold the Fujis.

I briefly used the Zeiss Jena's and was unimpressed, especially with the edge performance. YMMV.
