Comparing a three element 5" F/7 scope against a four element 4" F/5.4 scope...Interesting. Wouldn't it have been a more fair comparison if you added the TEC 140 Prime Focus Field Flattener and possibly stepped the TEC-140 down to 4".

The FS-152 is a Fluorite Doublet (2 lens element) whilst the TOA-150 is a Triplet (3 lens element). The TOA is reported to have better color correction with no hint of false color when the scope is used visually where as the FS-152 has had some users report a visual hint of false color. Since Takahashi has restricted the use of Fluorite and the FS-152 is no longer in production the natural progression was for Takahashi to go to Triplet designs. If you are looking for a 6" Refractor for visual use then the FS-152 on offer at Anacortes is a true bargain but if you are thinking of a visual/CCD Imaging 6" Refractor then the TOA-150 might be the better choice. Thats not to say you can't image with the FS-152 it was that Takahashi designed and corrected the TOA-150 for imaging. I am surprised that no one has grabbed the FS-152 on offer.

I use 'The Sky 6' Professional Edition from Software Bisque to GOTO control my Takahashi NJP Mount. I am also familiarising myself with T-Point to refine the mounts GOTO accuracy. There is also programs from Starry Night (Starry Night Pro) which some people think is better than The Sky program. Check out the websites for Software Bisque and Starry Night to see if they have trial programs that they let you use free for about 1 month so you can determine what suits you.

Well finally got over the procrastination and decided not to go searching for a second hand FSQ-106N but rather I committed and placed an order for the FSQ-106ED. The AUS$/JPN YEN exchange rate was too good to miss this opportunity...so the Mewlon will have a new baby brother soon. 
On another note the seeing conditions here down under in Melbourne hasn't been great of late but last night I experienced the so called refractor like performance other Mewlon 250 owners have reported. Spent 3 hours viewing Saturn (then I decided to come in from the cold to watch The Amazing Race-All Stars). At first the views weren't good but as the optics thermally stabalised the view of Saturn became sharp and I could edge the magnification up. At that point I was convinced I don't really need to search out a 5-6" refractor the Mewlon offers the best planetary views I have seen so far. The Mewlon truly is the underestimated quiet achiever of the Takahashi line.

What Dovetail Plate and Tube Rings are you using to mount your FSQ. Unfortunately I can't find tube rings of good quality (SocalAstro) or the correct size here down-under. I decided not to go with the Takahashi Clamshell tube holder but I may not have a choice.

I am not complaining about the quality of the case, which is high quality as the other two I own (Mewlon 250 & NJP cases) and I have no intention of returning this case. As I have since been made aware TNR ship their FSQ-106ED's to their US (Only) customers with a screw-in end cap which preserves the airline portability of the Scopeguard case. This end cap apparently is not available from Takahashi but only from TNR. All I have to do is try and find a good machinist here down-under to manufacture me a similar cap.
It was not my intention to tarnish the reputation of Scopeguard or their products so I will delete the original thread in this forum and in future keep my comments to myself.
My apologies for any offence resulting from my comments.
