Definitely a drop in posts!

Well, I think it is pretty clear that the new rules has caused a pretty big drop in posts. I guess that means that many of the people that posted the most were not supporters?
Floyd,
Did I miss something? You can't post if your not a supporter? (I am but just to clarify)

The First Manned Spaceflight & I

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Could have had pieces of it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vostok_1
Vostok 1 came down in a field near the town of Engels where my future wife would eventually be born. Her father, and now my father-in-law, was a well-respected principal of a school at the time of the landing. The students from his school scoured the site at the time of the landing and brought back metal parts, tubing and other pieces of the craft. The these parts were then given to my future father-in-law who kept them for many years in his apartment in Russia. He now lives in the states and I learned tonight that he had these artifacts from the first manned space flight but no longer has them.
I came oh-so-close to having a piece of history from the very first manned space flight. Why couldn't have kept these pieces? :S Yikes!!!

Gunfight at OK Corral

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Well, I've seen the handwritten account of the gunfight from Wyatt Earp at the Gene Autry museum but it now appears additional eyewitnesses gave their testimony as well:

It would be interesting to compare notes...

Stephen Hawking on Aliens: Avoid Them

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Well, I've seen the same concerns in my readings on SETI and they appear popularized in the movie, "Independence Day".

Project Bluebook: The Unexplained Cases

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Although most sightings of UFOs were explained in the US Airforce Bluebook Report, some cases remained unexplained. I thought it might be interesting to look at those that were not explained by the investigation. I had no idea several involved intercepts by US fighter aircraft, tracking objects both visually and on radar. The estimated speed of some of these objects also appears to defy explanation.
I'm not stating we've been visited by little green men but unexplained stuff happens. Enjoy!:

Light Pollution Revisited

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Overheard today on KNX news radio during the noon lunch hour:
The city of Los Angeles has begun installing high intensity LED street lights today. One resident described the new lights as "insanely bright" and complained he couldn't sleep at night because one was shining into his bedroom window. Another stated he felt it was a good idea because he thought it would prevent cars from being broken into and he had foliage covering his bedroom window so he could sleep at night.
The four year plan is to replace the 140,000 existing street lights with LED bulbs. The new light boxes are brighter than the ones they will replace because they are wider and bigger than before. In other words, more glare everywhere!
The LED bulbs will reportedly save 40% in energy costs as compared to existing street lights.
The city could simply turn a lot of the existing ones off and save even more or place motion sensors on them like another city did but why do that when you can re-invent the light bulb? :S

Quite a lot of implications from these census estimates, to be sure.
