Is Hillary defeated?

Does Hillary have any chance of making a comeback and, if so, how? 8O

I say she's toast. With the media and the republican candidates all treating her as the heir-apparent, and the republican party having geared up for a Hillary fight for years, the dems are desperate for a different choice.

Earlier Edwards and Obama were effectively splitting the "Not Hillary" vote. With Edwards out of the picture, Obama can really run away with things. In my precinct on Super Tuesday I stayed around to hear the final vote count, Obama swept it by more than 3-to-1. Stunned everyone present in the room. We were all expecting it to be 'close'.

I don't think the superdelegates will go so far as to override the primary/caucus results. If they do it will be explosive, bring down the Democratic party for the year and give McCain the election.

Another viewpoint...but who is listening???

I guess there are a few scientists left that are not hopping on the Global Warming bandwagon (at least not the GW caused by us god-like humans) in order to maintain or secure their government grants....

Heh heh. The scientist in point is a member of the "Friends of Science" that historically gets a lot of its money from the oil and gas industry. There is a highly coordinated (and very well-funded) campaign of global-warming "skeptics" whose goal is to manufacture confusion, which is unfortunately easy in scientific subjects and even easier when it caters to people's natural aversion toward anything that smacks of personal responsibility.

To be sure, sunspots affect earth's climate, but conveniently this group chooses to ignore sunspot-data correlation more recent than about 1980... I guess because more recent decades don't aid the "skeptic" case... :S See, if you take out the hottest decades of global warming, suddenly it doesn't look like such a problem! grin What, me worry? wink

Leave It for The Other Guy

Posted By Paul Kammueller

This is how the political cycle works:
1) politician gets elected on promises of tax cuts
2) drunken frat party ensues where taxes are cut, revenue falls, spending skyrockets, national debt balloons rapidly
3) nation wakes up with a fiscal hangover, politician gets elected, promises to restore fiscal discipline
4) tax increases and spending cuts ensue, triggering much whining
5) return to step (1)

McCain's Republican Sleeze Busted

And unlike most political scandals, this one is actually understandable to the average news-watcher. It's not some obscure campaign-financing gobbledygook, it's extortion, gangster-story material. Not good press to be sure.

I saw the footage the night it happened, that was just wild. I wonder if they're trying to triangulate an impact zone from the various eyewitness accounts?

So, if you had seen such a thing, what would be the first thing you would do:

A) Call whoever it is you call when such things happen, or
B) Get in the car and drive toward the apparent impact site or
C) Say, "Whoa... dude..." and go to bed.

Any guesses where the SPY/QQQ/DIA from here

Posted By Paul Kammueller

I would say that QQQ is actually getting interesting.

Looking at the 34-year chart of the Nasdaq composite, sheared and trend-normalized, it is currently near a channel bottom on a par with the 1975, 1991 and 2002 market lows (red circles).

Could still go a bit lower without breaking any long-term trends, but the potential rewards at this point are handsome for the fearless -- provided we aren't in such an economic state that long-term trends are about to be seriously broken.

I know. I was frustrated when I read about it too. I wish super-supernovae would send out some kind of warning, like a preview or something!

I think GWB has set expectations so low, that miracles are not necessary: his successor needs only to look marginally competent to look like an absolute godsend.

As nice as miracles would be, many of us will be thrilled if we simply elect someone who doesn't make things worse.

Wasn't just pinging the dems on that subject, McCcain's cabinet will be well stocked with skunks also. I do read articles before ref's are made

Fast fortunes were made in the subprime world and this leads to newfound political power for those in the 'new money' crowd and influence in the banking-political circles. I imagine a lot of these types ended up in highly influential political spots on both sides.
