The Bush Legacy

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Russell Chmela said:
Even as we post, cadres of party faithful voluntarily brainstorm for ways to--over the next decades clean up and re-brand the Bush years as a great thing. It will be the historical equivalent to cleaning up a superfund hazmat site. If they are let get away with it, we'll be ready for another go at neoclown politics maybe in less than 10 years.

Not physically possible unless they get rid of all the witnesses. Not gonna happen. This administration was different -- there just isn't enough lipstick out there to put on this pig.

Should Bush Worry?

Posted By Paul Kammueller

No he shouldn't worry. If everything up to that point wasn't enough then MC's testimony won't be enough either. My reaction when his book came out was, "Big deal, everybody already knew that." Now they just know a little more about how and why they did it. I tell you, the perps are all just gonna walk.

McCain's Latest Flip-Flop

Posted By Paul Kammueller

The 'repeal' position was needed to help secure the GOP nomination. With that now in the bag it's time to set the dial to a more moderate 'general-election' setting to avoid looking like a total fiscal deficit monkey.

If a God works on planets for a week...

Lee Spain said:
Then God could have made 250000 Earth-like planets if he applied himself.

But if there were only 250,000 Earth-like planets in the Known Universe, the closest ones would be about several hundred million light-years apart. So, being separated by several dozens of galaxies, each and every one of the 250,000 Earth-like planets would no doubt be thoroughly convinced that they themselves were the only inhabited one in the Universe, and that they were God's 'chosen' people, made in His image.

So God would get no recognition whatsoever from all that extra effort. No kudos in his performance review, no raise, no annual bonus. Not much incentive for one to apply oneself. wink

Arctic Ice Melting

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Yup, the debate is quickly becoming moot. The arctic is basically toast at this point. If the goal of the denialists was to delay action until it's 'too late', then on this count they can declare a decisive victory over the environment and the scientific community. The facts were against them, but they won the PR battle anyway.

Now the fallback position will be for humanity to partially mitigate, and adapt to, the new atmospheric conditions we've engineered. There is no longer any question of preventing the climatic changes and biological food-chain & crop disruptions now looming. The best we can do now is just slow things enough to limit the damage as much as possible. You think food is expensive now? You ain't seen nothin' yet.

More from Al Gore and his G/W swindle

Posted By Paul Kammueller

I didn't see any references to companies and investments, just a barely-coherent rambling diatribe about Gore's electric bills. This is really really old news. The writing is rather shrill and he makes a weak argument attempting to put down the efforts Gore's made to mitigate his own footprint but there's not much to it.

At any rate, if you don't like Gore, don't vote for him. wink

Barack's New Seal

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Just another non-issue for the MSM to focus on so we can have fresh string of hit pieces on Obama. Anything to avoid covering actual issues facing the country.

Though it's also possible the Obama campaign may have picked the design just to tweak the noses of the right-wing bloggers and talk-show hosts, as a way of daring them to just TRY and stop him from becoming president.

THEY are gonna try to scare you?

You don't beat the R's by playing nice. It just doesn't work, it's been proven time and again. The R's fight dirty and they play for keeps. You have to fight fire with fire in this arena. He's just being proactive, and that's definitely a good thing.

I think that's what alarms the R's most about Obama. This guy stands his ground and fights back.

Breaking Supreme Court News - 2nd Amendment

Posted By Paul Kammueller

Jim Brown said:
There are apparently some reasonable limitations on gun ownership still allowed under the constitution (banning sawed off shotguns might still be OK for example.) But any total ban of guns for self defense is not going to fly.

I thought it was an excellent ruling. The total handgun ban in DC was over the top. Now it is clear that no total bans are in the offing anymore, though other regulations or limitations are -- which also ironically robs the lobby of one of their chief arguments (the 'slippery slope' thesis stating that any regulation will lead to a total ban on guns: this is clearly no longer a possibility and is now a dead talking point).
