Saturn Titan transit - February 24, 2009

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I finally got to process all the images I shot during the February 24 Titan transit. Seeing got worse and worse as the morning went on. These are the best two images.

Saturn February 27 with Dione on disk.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I'm pretty sure I caught Dione's shadow on the disk in these images. According to Winjupos what I caught is in the right spot. Seeing was decent which helped.

Saturn and Dione

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Managed to catch Saturn with Dione transiting last night. Here are 3 RGB images and an avi of my red layers. I wanted to make an animated gif, but I don't have software to do so....

Saturn March 12 - Titan transit

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I guess I'm always about 6 weeks behind in processing and I finally got to the March 12 Titan transit. Very decent seeing, even if the session ended early due to clouds.

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the above system? My brother-in-law is looking at this as a scope to buy. I'm not familiar with Meade products, so I'm looking for help. His knowledge of astronomy is fair, and I can certainly help as needed. My biggest question is if this is a bang for the buck setup. He wants to do 60% visual and 40% imaging (both planets and DSO). He is pretty adamant about sticking with Meade.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Here is an image of Saturn shot in decent conditions. I was able to capture three non-Titan moons.

Io-Europa occultation alert!

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

For those who are interested, on May 23 starting at about 1140UT, Europa will occult Io according to both Winjupos and Starry Night. That's a Saturday morning. The 2 moons will be about 53" from Jupiter.

Saturn and 5 moons

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is an image from March 20 I just processed. I captured 4 moons and upon very close examination I found a fifth moon, Enceladus at mag 11.5. Seeing was only average and I got clouded out soon after.

Ganymede-Europa eclipse animation and images

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I got my nap and finished the animation and images. I'm pretty happy the way they turned out, tho I wish a bit more detail had showed on Ganymede. Looks like even though Ganymede is larger than Europa, Europa has a higher albedo.

Not sure how to get the moons to keep from hopping around..ah well.

Enjoy!
