"New House Speaker Kevin McCarthy maintained a disciplined frown for most of the address, applauding and even standing when the subject-matter required it. But Biden was lustily heckled by Republicans for the second year in a row, and this time not just by a couple of extremists. But Biden turned their rowdiness to his advantage. The loudest complaints were provoked by his (totally justified) taunts about Republican malice toward Social Security and Medicare — evidenced by Senator Rick Scott’s plan to “sunset” these and every other federal program. The Republicans roared that that aren’t actually after these programs, allowing Biden to sarcastically take credit for GOP “conversions” to the cause of protecting these programs and the seniors who rely on them. McCarthy looked pained at how his charges walked into a predictable trap that Biden sprang expertly and even joyfully in off-script interactions with his detractors."

It was definitely one of the better state of the union speeches I've seen. Biden really work 'em and the GOP nutcases in the crowd fell right into his hands.

Haley is running!

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Nikki was MAGA before Trump!
"Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley defended states’ rights to secede from the United States, South Carolina’s Confederate History Month and the Confederate flag in a 2010 interview with a local activist group that “fights attacks against Southern Culture.”
"Haley, who was running for South Carolina governor at the time, made the comments during an interview with the now defunct “The Palmetto Patriots,” a group which included a one-time board member of a White nationalist organization."
"Haley said that while she believed under the Constitution that states have the right to secede from the rest of the country."
"The Supreme Court ruled in 1869 that states do not have a constitutional right to unilaterally secede."

I know it and you know it but Jim Brown and the cons on the forum as well as the Faux News viewership don't have a clue...

CNN is not representing Nikki Haley as a white supremacist. Her own statements suggest that. that. She has advocated for secession and stated it was a constitutional right to do so. CNN didn't lie about it or make it up.

We suffered through years of this lie.  Some of the fan boys still buy into it, even after the investigations were wound down with what amounts to exoneration, but no apology.

Jim
There's nothing in that video that isn't factual.

I doubt Haley can get the nomination.  There will be a lot of headwind.  But if she were to get the nomination,  I will immensely enjoy watching you and like-minded spin doctors at CNN twist and lie to convince yourselves that this proud, accomplished, and intelligent woman (who isn't even white) is in fact a White Supremacist who advocates for secession!  You will only be convincing yourselves because if Haley runs, Joe loses the youth and suburban mom vote, a significant portion of the minority vote, and thus the EC, by a lot.

A debate between Haley and Biden would have to be stopped midway, just to be humane to the old codger!

I suppose you agree with CNN's Don Lemmon that not only is Haley a white-supremacist secessionist, but that she is indeed "past her prime" because, you know, women peak at 20 or so.  You could Google it....  Sorry, even Don Lemmon gave a "sorry, not sorry" about that lovely bit of mysogyny.

Reread my initial post.  Nothing that CNN publishes about Haley will surprise me, no matter how big the lie.  I will also be speechless if you do not buy the lies CNN is (and will be) spreading from now until Haley wins.
Here's CNN's reporting in their article:
"Haley said that while she believed under the Constitution that states have the right to secede from the rest of the country. When asked if she would support the seccession of South Carolina, which was the first state to secede during the Civil War, she said she did not think “it’s gonna get to that point.”
“The Union, I think that they do,” Haley inaccurately said. “I mean, the Constitution says that".
Now, one could argue that's a notch below Marjorie Taylor Green's statement on President's day that called for a "national divorce" in the united states wherein red states become autonomous from blue states but the messaging and the dog whistling to the base is the same. At least one Republican governor of arguably the most conservative state in the county, Utah, condemned Greene's statement and "the hatred" it conveys, but the base isn't listening to him...

This is hardly common knowledge.   Looks like the Supremes also confirmed that secession with consent was perfectly acceptable under the Constitution.  Would you let the Dakotas go if they asked nicely?

More importantly, what was Haley taking about all those years ago?  Unilateral secession or something else?  The quote above is gibberish.  You don't know anything about the context, because the CNN article is devoid of context.  Not surprising.

At worst, this is a Haley gaffe from decades ago.   Gaffes are disqualifying you know, but at least she never claimed to fight a tough guy named Corn Pop.  But CNN has spun this gaffe, or misquote into evidence that this candidate is a white supremacist and in your words a secessionist.   Wow.  That some unbiased reporting there.
I don't buy your interpretation. As per the example of Texas:
"When Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States."
"The states" is pleural, meaning the states of the union would have to consent, so an individual state would have to acquire the consent of the states of the union and the reality, of course, is that would not occur.
So Haley, as a either a candidate for governor or as a governor, or other elected officer, should know better. My conclusion here is that CNN's reporting is accurate in what she said,  and Haley was dog whistling to her base.

He got a wrist slap from CNN, and issued a tepid non-apology.  You OK with the way this was handled?  CNN is going to be the gift that keeps on giving for the Haley campaign.
Compared to the constant propaganda of Faux News and other right wing media, Lemon's idiotic comment is a drop in the bucket. At least he apologized for it. Compared to what has transpired on Faux, this is a minor transgression.
Where's Haley's response to this?
"Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) touched a nerve across the political spectrum this week with her call for a “national divorce” that echoed the nation’s history surrounding secessionism."
"Greene’s call for the U.S. to be split into two nations of red and blue states has infuriated members of both parties, while giving Republicans an unwanted headache."
"Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) labeled the idea “evil,” and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) tweeted that “Secession is unconstitutional. No member of Congress should advocate secession, Marjorie.”
"But neither House GOP leadership nor rank-and-file Republicans in the lower chamber have responded."

Haley's lack of a response as well as that from GOP leadership provides tacit approval of Greene's inane and insane ideology...
