Coulter Odyssey 10.1"

Posted By Uriel Lizardi

I have had this scope for a little under a year now! It has been fun to learn with it on my own after using my friend's 8" Orion dob scope. I picked this up for $100 from one of the local groups in my state of Utah. (his wife made him sell it) As much as I enjoy using it, I hate the focuser. I know these scopes were meant to be made low cost for the average consumer. So my question here is, what would be the best way of going about doing a focuser upgrade, and what would people recommend?

And yes, I have heard it all before "just enjoy it, buy a new scope much later..."

I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars, when I bought this scope for only $100. but it would be nice to add a new focuser that would make it a bit easier to use, and more user friendly for when taken to star parties

Coulter Odyssey 10.1" modifications

I have had this Coulter telescope now for a short time, and have used it only 4 times. I have read that the optics are only subpar on these, but I have compared it to my friend's Orion 8" and I feel the Coulter has good optics, as I get clearer views of deep space objects on it then on his, but yes, his has much better views of the planets.

What I want to do is change the eye piece on this! And yes, I have heard it before on other groups about just enjoying this scope and upgrading in the future to a much better scope. That does not help with what I want though. So I would like to hear serious suggestions of a good non expensive way of changing the Focuser? The draw tube on this can be very hard to get just right, and I really want to use this scope more often once the snow melts here in Utah, and we can get a clear sky.

So if anyone has some good suggestions on this, I would love to hear from you. Also any other recommendations on upgrades that would make this scope last for a good long while before making a decision on spending a lot of money for a newer scope. I am just beginning, and I know it will take me a while to decide on whether or not to buy something else.

For a good reference, I am late to the amateur astronomy party, I am in my early 30's
